(Season 2007-08)TY Mileage– 08NitroRTX - riding in Alaska

What engine break in procedure did you follow? It does not appear that you followed the Yamaha recommendations. I ask because I now have my first 4-stroke and want to break it in right when we get some snow.

Safety Sean,

Out of the 4 FX Nytros we have ONE was broke in like every other 4 stroke I have owned. Vary the throttle, don't fully load engine, get engine up to operating temp a few min and let cool completely cycle this five or six times over 2 days.

Then go drive it!! Never holding it wide open for more than a 10 count (ten seconds)
After 50 miles or so start driving it a little harder.

The other three were broke in EXACTLY like the 2008 FX Nytro Owners manual states!! (page 31)

We'll see which runs better or burns more oil, or what ever over time...

The mpg is 1 of 2 reasons I didn't buy a Nytro [and I wanted to bad] is because of the tank size! Yamaha had their heads up their a$@#%!

Please put a tank on the 09s, We don't care what it adds to the weight of the sled!!!

OK so it's been a while since my last update...mainly because I haven't been riding much..
We were going on a ride on Sunday (yesterday) so since I had made a series of changes I wanted to go for a quick run on Friday.. well all didn't go as planned...

Since last report sled has now gone through some changes and one minor wreck that looked WAY worse than thedamage that thesled took...Yes I feel the sled came through VERY lucky!!
These are in another post but since it's my ride I'll post the pic here too. Bottom line is I launched off a small jump at the wrong angle and sled got flipped (barrel rolled then end over end @ about 35 mph or so) Damage (other than my pride!!) was very limited.. Dented left running board, broken lefthand gaurd, tweaked left ski, and 6 plastic windshield screws. Sled ended up upside down That's it!!

Sundays ride (after fixing Fridays misshap!)

58 miles up in the swaps of P-ville
Temp was 15 degrees with a 20+mph wind

The Powder hounds were bolted on and NO other adjustments were made, therefor they were a little aggressive and heavier steering. But OH man do they float good! I think they will be a good match for the 120x1.75x16 track.
The Ohlins front shocks came in and WOW what a ride they give, you couldn't pay me to take the stock floats back (without some actual information on how to tune them...) Rebuilt rear skid shocks are very close to theride I was looking for just maybe a little stiffer on the big hits. But over all a nice improvemnet over stock.

Sled ran absolutly great.. until.. (but we'll get to that later)
fresh powered every where and it was perfect for shorties we could go anywhere we wanted too. Got to briefly play with an 800 Rev (not xp) and suspension wise the my FX Nytro RTX gives up nothing! ;)! Power wise well I think a stock MXZx 800 has it hands completely full trying to keep up from 25-90! The Yamaha flat accelerates very well!! I didn't get a mileage on this trip because I was unsure how I was going to fix the leaking I encountered.
Looks as if I did a little stud action into the heat exchanger! I actually think it happened under hard braking and the track slipped over the drivers (can this happen?) I have been running extroverts for so long it was a non issue with them!!! But other that that I don't know of a time that the studs could have become in contact with the heat exchanger unless I lost a few... (I'll have to check)

Couple things Sled WILL run hot until you let it idle for even a few seconds and high temp hut down accures.. Now sled will NOT start until cooled off once started as long as it does't idle it'll run.. proving back when I said there is NO high temp shut down protection except for @ an idle..... Because my temp gauge isn't hooked up I don't know how hot I actually got but I would from time to time let it idle for a few seconds and if it died I'd et it cool if it didn't die I'd ride for a mile or so and test it again
High temp light comes on @ 212 degrees!

I will follow up on my findings

Are you up and running again? Sorry to hear of your mishap. Hope you get it together again soon.

I was out yesterday, got 54 kms or 33 miles. We've had warm weather for the last week, temps have been between +3C to +9C or 37F to 48F with lots of rain. All snow is gone at sealevel and it's leaving in the mountains as well. Today is the second day with hurricane force winds of 160+ kmt or 100+ mph. Weather is plain crazy. In the southern part of Norway, 2000 kms or 1250 miles down south they have cold temps at -25 C or -13F, go figure. :-(
