Ride: 48 - 2003 RX-1 Turbo
Date: April 5.
Distance: 103 kms or 64 miles
Start odo: 12899kms or 8016 miles
End odo: 13002 kms or 8080 miles
Start odo Apex RTX: 0 kms or 0 miles
Mileage so far: 849 kms or 527 miles
Start odo Turbo RX-1: 10162 kms or 6315 miles
Mileage so far: 2839 kms or 1764 miles
Start odo Stock RX-1: 3694 kms or 2300 miles
Mileage so far: 620 kms or 385 miles - SOLD
Total mileage 2007-2008: 4308 kms or 2677 miles
Went out riding with a good friend today. We trailered up the valley to Skoganvarre and went for some powder riding. We both ride blue '03 RX-1 MCXpress turbo sleds.
Start odo.
Offloading in the parking lot at Skoganvarre.
Met up with my friend and a bunch of young guys at lake Øvrevann close by. After joining up with the group we headed to the woods for some powder riding. The group up in the hills close to lake Saŋŋgujavri.
Waiting for the last member to catch up before heading down towards the lake Saŋŋgujavri.
After doing some powder riding on the lake, me and my friend split up with the young guys and headed to the north towards lake Vuollejavri. Up in the hills looking back at lake Saŋŋgujavri.
A view to the north, in the direction we were heading. My friend and the turbos on top of the hill getting ready for some deep snow riding down in the woods ahead of us.
Riding the deep powder in the woods were a blast. I can't wait to get out for some powder riding with the turbo asap, it's addictive
On the return we stopped at the parkinglot at Skoganvarre.
At the parking lot I noticed I'd got a SMS message from another friend of mine Roger, on my cell phone. We decided to ride and meet up with him and his son. Shortly after we catched up on him at lake Gagga. We rode to lake Ceagguljavri where we took a break.
Roger and his son were on their way down to Rochi valley to visit yet another friend of mine Svein
Me and my riding buddy went on searching for more deep snow as got addicted to powder riding We found a spot with 2 ft of powder up in the Sarves valley and had a blast riding. We're not stuck, my friend is showing depth of the powder.
After riding in the woods for a while we played on this open field, snow depth was a little less out in the open, but still a whole lot of fun.
On the return we decided to pay my cabin on lake Gagga a visit. We had late lunch and soft drinks inside my cabin before we went out for a final round in the powder. On our way back to the parking lot at Skoganvarre we found good powder at lake Ørretvann. My friend lost his direction climbing this hill and came to a stop in the trees he got stuck LOL, notice the snow depth
As we were running out of gas we headed back to lake Øvrevann. We did a few passes on the lake to check our sleds state of tune when it comes to boost levels and clutching. Running on the lake showed me that there are still more left in her (my sled). My sled at the parking lot, ready to load it up on the trailer.
The ADBoivin ZX-2 skid does not hold any snow at all. This is what it looks like after a day of powder riding Nor does my sled freeze up with ice, no ice build up at all.
End trip.
End odo.
Later in the evening I did some fine tuning to my clutces, and upped the boost a little as I was 1 lbs low of 16 lbs. Finally I did the stock carb spring mod for MCXpress turboed sleds. Gotta get out and test ride it this evening to verify my setup. If I find the "Stock carb spring mod" to work I will post how it's done.
NB! This mod requires the billet carb caps to work.
It may work with the stock plastic caps, but I have no way to know or verify it.
Again I had my best day out riding. Powder riding is way different than trail riding, it doesn't compare at all. The 136" turboed RX-1's did extremely well in the powder because of the power we run.
Can't wait to ride the powder again, can't wait to ride whatever again LOL

Objective today was to test the stock carb spring mod, and the clutch mods I did yesterday.
Start odo.
Ready to go out for a test ride up the Rochi valley, lakes up there are pretty flat with good hardpack for drag race type testing and speed runs.
End trip.
End odo.
Mod worked very well at the same boost level top end rpms went up from at least 400 rpms to 10700-10800 shift rpms. Throttle response was very good, except from very slow cruise, then I got burble and she was breaking up until it cleared out and she ran like a rocket. Giving it wot from higher speeds sled responded very fast to throttle. All in all I found a few more HP cutting down the stock carb springs. The carb springs are a work in progress, after the ride I have cut down the springs another 12 millimeter.
The polygraph aka WBO2 tells me that she is going fat when giving it WOT, she goes high 9s to low 10s right away when giving her WOT. I believe that the carb springs are still too stiff not lifting the throttle slides fast enough thus creating a huge vacuum over the needle and jet pulling too much fuel when there is still little air available. This happens at vacuum just before boost kicks in. I will have to make another testride to verify what changes the last cutting creates. Carb spring length are down at 83 millimeter.
Anyway, I will have to install more weight to the tip to bring rpms back down to 10400 where she makes the best power.

My friend and co-worker Roger called me this evening and asked me if I wanted to go for an evening ride up the Brennelv valley and into the mountains, of course I wanted to go riding with my good friend
Start odo.
We started out from where trail 15 begins, less than 200 meters or 600 ft from where I live. My friend trailered to the parkinglot and had unloaded the sled when I arrived.
Frist stop up in the Brennelv valley. The campsite at the farm road.
Up on the Brennelva river we first encountered a moose and a few hundred meters or 600 ft later we encountered a herd of reindeer which fled up into the hills when we approached them.
Up in the Rochi valley, a view to the south towards mount Gagga.
A view to the north towards the valley Gussanoski. Mount Gussavarri in the distance.
Still in the Rochi valley, out in the swamplands.
We entered the army road and shot a few pics from the hillsides of mount Gagga. A view towards the north west.
The Rochi valley.
Zooming in, the Brennelv valley in the distance.
Up in the mountains. Lake Langvann.
The trail ahead. We turned towards the west, on our way to lake Gagga.
On our way to lake Gagga. I shot this pic in the Sarves valley a few miles before entering lake Gagga. Fading light in the northern skies.
End trip.

My goal for the ride was to ride past 320 kilometers or 200 miles, which I accomplished by riding 405 kilometers or 252 miles. For the first 300 kilometers or 186 miles I rode alone. When home I met a buddy and off we went for an evening ride
Weather was pretty nice with shattered clouds in the morning and clearing up during the day. I had sunshine from a clear blue sky from noon until sunset. Winds were nothing to speak of until the afternoon where I had a strong head wind riding towards the east on the mountain plain.
Start odo.
Warming up outside my house, getting ready to leave.
First stop was up in the Brennelv valley on the forest trail.
Next stop was up in the Rochi valley on the forest trail.
Up in the pass between mount Gagga and mount Mellomfjellet, entering the mountain plain to the east.
The trail ahead, towards the south east.
At lake Langvann I turned towards the east. In the next pic I'm closing in on the Luostejohka valley. Mount Suonjirgaissa are covered in clouds in the far distance.
Just before entering the Luostejohka valley I turned to the south at the junction where the trail to the nearest town of Kárášjohka takes off to the south.
In this pic I have just passed the Luostejohka river and the valley. On my way up into the plains again.
The trail ahead.
Up on the mountain plain again, a view in the back course, the Luostejohka valley.
After riding on the mountain plain for a while I entered the forest. This part of the mountain plain are on a lower altitude and are covered by forest.
Clouds were starting to break up and weather was just great. The Apex in the sun
At this junction I headed to the south towards the town of Kárášjohka.
The trail follows the powerlines for many miles.
After a few miles the trail just disappeared as the last few sleds going down the trail had turned around. Now I was breaking trail with a 121" sled and the snow was 30-60 cm or 1-2 ft.
Riding in along the powerlines. A pic shot in the back course.
The trail ahead.
The Siribekken communications tower.
This trail is not in common use, but I finally encountered what looked like a trail, the tracks of one single sled appeared in front of me that was very welcomed as it's a lot easier to ride in someones trails than breaking trail in untouched snow. It's nice but it takes a lot of fuel and gas stations are far apart so I had to think about fuel conservation.
Entering lake Iddjajavri.
On the far end of the lake, the trail ahead.
Up on the highest point on the plain between the Luostejohka valley and the town of Kárášjohka. A view towards the north west.
A view towards the south east.
This trail goes alongside the highway E6. Crossing the highway E6.
Entering the pine forest. I was closing in on the town of Kárášjohka.
Entering the Kárášjohka river.
In the outskirts of Kárášjokha, closing in on the town. A few miles left until my first break of the day.
The Sami Parliament where the elected representatives of the Sami people gathers to debate and vote..... you know politics ...
Fueling up at the Esso (Exxon) gas station.
The next leg were about 195 kilometers or 120+ miles across the western mountain plains with no gas stations, no towns, only a few "Fjellstuer" where I could seek shelter if weather turned too bad.
Heading up the river, only difference I did not turn to the north where I came from but I continuned up the river for 15 kilometer or 9 miles or so before I started climbing up into the mountain plains again.
On the river.
Entering the western mountian plains, above treeline.
Entering the Gárdin Fjellstue, the trail guide with direction and distance.
The Gárdin Fjellstue. It lyes down in the forrest in a small valley.
Again I climbed up into the plains above the treeline. heading to the west.
The endless plains continues. I met quite a few cross contry skiiers when crossing the plains, though people them skiiers
And the endless plains contined.
I'm entering the Molleš Fjellstue. It lyes at the treeline high up in a small valley.
The Molleš Fjellstue.
Again I was riding up into the endless plains. I guess the plains must be somewhat similar to the praries of USA and Canada. This pic is shot at lake Iešjavri, the largest lake in the region of Finnmark. MAN where is my snow flap??? It's gone??? I did not notice it was gone back at Molleš Fjellstue.
Closing in on Joatkka Fjellstue, the endless plains continued.
I did not shoot a pic of Joatkka Fjellstue because this would have been a few miles detour, which I chose to skip because I had to conserve fuel. At this point I was less than half way on my leg from Kárášjohka to Lakselv, crossing the western plains.
On my way to the north towards Stabbursdalen valley, the endless plains continued.
At Stabbursdalen valley I took off to the east towards lake Leavnnjasjavri up in the western gaissa mountain range. The endless plains continued.
I rode across the lake and continued towards the village of Skuvvanvarri. Finally I could see the end of the endless white plains. It was nice to see the forest in the valley close to home
I was starting to get very hungry and thirsty so I decided to stop at my cabin on the lake Gagga to take a bite and some soft drinks before heading home. When entering the cabin on the lake I had actually been riding non stop since the fuel stop in the town of Kárášjohka, the only times I stopped was when shooting pics, a few minutes at the top. I took a half and hour rest at the cabin, stopping at the cabin was a relief as I was starting to suffer from fatigue in both my arms and legs.
At the cabin.
Heading back home. I talked to my buddy Sneip1 on the phone and we planned to meet up down in the Rochi valley. Pic is shot on the lake Gagga.
I arrived in the Rochi valley ahead of Sneip1 so I decided to take a ride up into the Lemmivarre mountain range to shoot some pics of the Rochi valley from up there.
First pics is shot to the south, up the valley.
To the south west, mount Gagga.
To the east, mount Halkkavarri.
To the north east, mount Cahkkalvarri.
To the north, Lemmivarre mountain range.
I met up with my friend and his girlfriend. They were heading to Luostejohka valley, I had too little fuel to join them so I decided to head back home down the Brennelv valley.
Next few pics were shot down at the Brennelva river, close to the sea.
The Nieiddan mountain range.
Mount Gussavarri.
Were Brennelva river empties into the Arctic ocean in the bottom of the Porsanger fjord. The sea ice have great snow cover this year
Finally at home.
When home I talked to my good friend Jan Ole (the Yamaha dealer). He wanted to go for a evening ride and I joined him right away. I threw in the little fuel I had left at home and off we went for an evening ride. Ready to leave home.
Up in the Nieiddan mountain range close to lake Slottevann.
Shot at the same spot, mount Bieggavakkegaissa and mount Divvgagaissa in the background.
At lake Langvann...again
At the army's Halkkavarri shooting and bomb field. The sunset was just beautiful
This pic is shot in the same spot. Panserbu cabin and mount Mellomfjellet in the background.
On our way back home we decide to ride across the sea ice in the fjord bottom and ride up the Lakselva river back home. When entering the shore after crossing the frozen fjord I ran out of gas Luckily we were only a kilometer or a mile away from town so it was not very far to get hold of a can of gas
This pics is shot just after I have got my sled up and running again. Looking out at the Lakselva river close to where it empties into the ocean.
End trip.
End odo.
I did set a personal best for a days ride when it comes to mileage, 405 kilometers or 252 miles WOW I'm tired. Actually I was tired for a few days after this ride. I will remember this ride for a very long time
This one is for hondo - buddy, I only now begin to understand what you just have done for 60 days straight. I have to say it again, hondo you are da man when it comes to mileage and again congrats on your achievement on your Guinness ride You're my hero
Man that was a though ride.
HAHAHAHA----guess what?? Today my good friend and riding buddy Odd Steffen told me some good news....??? He rode the same route across the plains from Kárášjohka to Lakselv as I did a few days later and he found my snow flap on the trail and picked it up, thank you buddy. We have a new "personal best" ride planned for this coming thursday. We want to break 500 kilometers or 310 miles in one days riding... we'll see if we can manage
Date: April 10.
Distance: 405 kms or 252 miles
Start odo: 957 kms or 594 miles
End odo: 1362 kms or 846 miles
Start odo Apex RTX: 0 kms or 0 miles
Mileage so far: 1362 kms or 846 miles
Start odo Turbo RX-1: 10162 kms or 6315 miles
Mileage so far: 2887 kms or 1794 miles
Start odo Stock RX-1: 3694 kms or 2300 miles
Mileage so far: 620 kms or 385 miles - SOLD
Total mileage 2007-2008: 4869 kms or 3026 miles

Start odo.
Ready to take off.
Breaking trail up in the Lemmivarre mountain range.
I rode cross Rochi valley and up into the eastern mountain plain. At the junction where the trail heads to the south towards the town of Kárášjohka. The Luostejohka valley, montain range Vansnjunnis and mount Suonjirgaissa in the background.
A view to the north. Mount Halkkavarri and mount Luostegaissa in the background.
A view to the south, the trail ahead.
16 kilometers or 10 miles later I met up with my good friend at lake Stolpevann. There were a few other people out fishing on the ice.
Me and my buddy decided to ride back towards lake Gagga. Close to mount Gagga.
Southern part of Lake Gagga.
The western Gaissa mountain range.

Me and my riding buddy Odd Steffen went out for a cruise with no particular place to go. We decided to just ride and see where it would bring us. We had arranged fuel delivered at Skuvvanvarri. Another friend of ours was going up the valley by car, he carried our 2 jerrycans of fuel with him Our plan was to ride around somewhere and when fuel got low we would visit our friends cabin and fuel up from the jerry cans and ride around here and there on our way back home down the valley. Well that was our plan ....
Start odo.
The turbos outside my garage, warming up and ready to take off.
Up in the mountains.
We rode past Rochi valley over the lakes entering lake Gagga. Yamaha had a demo ride at the lake so we paid our friends the Yamaha dealers a visit. Demo rides was had not started yet so instead of sitting around waiting we rode up the Sarves valley up to Gagganjunnis where I shot a few pics.
Hahaha - we don't play fair - no we don't we run Yamahas and we also run turbos, absolutely not fair LOL
We rode about in the mountains on the eastern mountain plain heading to the north. We did some adjustments to Odd Steffens ZX-2 suspension to help avoid ski lift. With his turbo sled at 300 HP ski lift can be a problem. I got the chance to ride his sled, and MAN what a ride, his ZX-2 is very different from mine, very plush ride while taking the bumps better than mine, go figure. Both sleds suspensions were set up exactly the same, and both are 136" suspensions ??? There got to be a difference between the ones manufactured in October '07 and those manufactured in January '08, springs in his sled are way softer than mine, there may be different valving too, who knows?
After riding around for a while we went back to the lake and the demo rides. Here's the sled out on the demo ride.
- RS Venture GT, 144" track
- RS Venture TF, 151" track
- FX Nytro RTX SE, 121" track
- FX Nytro XTX, 144" track
The sleds.
FX Nytro XTX.
RS Venture TF.
While the demo went on people to come over to look at our turbo sleds. I had to open the hood to take a look at my turbo setup (on the Apex there is nothing to be seen unless you dismantle the front hood and side panels, not an option on the trail). Guys were asking the usual questions about HP, did you build it yourself, what is all those hoses under the hood, and so on. One guy had the courage to ask me if he could take my sled for spin on the lake. I replied; if you buy my sled you can. I told him my sled was up for sale. He took my reply as a NO and walked away. That was not my intention cause I'm really trying to sell my sled. I walked over to him and said that he could take my sled for a ride on the lake. He got a brief explanation on how to ride a turbo sled and off he went, he returned after a few minutes so I waved him out for another round. When he returned I could hear him laughing in his helmet from 50 ft away. When he took his helmet off he said that he might as well burn his Ski-Doo outfit (the guy rides a Ski-Doo Summit 1000). He asked if he could take the sled right away, of course I said if you hand over the money He have to sell his sled first, when he does he will pick up my sled
Then another guy went out for a short spin. When he arrived we noticed that the sled was leaking coolant and when I shut off the ignition the sled started to dump coolant. I fould out later that a stud had taken out the front tunnel heat exchanger, bummer. Well I ordered new exchanger the next day. I hope to have the sled back up and running by the end of next week.
Coolant leak.
Hole in the heat exchanger.
End trip.
End odo.
Nice day out riding with my friend. Great new sleds coming for next season Sadly my turbo sled got hurt. I have now removed all studs from the track and saved 5 kg or 11 lbs in the process.

Today me, wifey and the kids went for a short ride to our cabin on the lake Gagga. I rode from home while wifey and kids drove by car to the parking lot close by our cabin.
Start odo.
I picked up the Nila sleigh and picked them up at the parking lot. Pic shot outside our cabin.
We did some more kitchen install. Later in the day my brother-in-law paid us a visit. He's riding a '07 Apex RTX with ArcticFX graphics.
We're ready to leave, wifey is ready to take off down to the parking lot.
She's looking really cool in her new riding gear I bought for her when I picked up the '08 Apex RTX
With wifey and kids down at the car on the parking lot I drove the sleigh up to the cabin and left to the north crossing lake Gagga and the lakes down the Rochi valley. Next pics were shot down at lake Stuevann in the Rochi valley. Condition on the trail are superb on the lakes
The back course.
The weather was really nice with sunshine. It was getting late in the afternoon and down in the Brennelv valley I ran into sunshine where the valley widened out.
The back course.
Close to home, where trail 15 ends/starts. I live only a dragrace away from the trail
End trip.
End odo.
Beautiful weather in the afternoon. Trails are holding up great. I can still drive out of my garage, snow conditions down at sealevel are very good still. We have been dumped on at least 1 ft last 3-4 days with forcast for more snow in the days to come. Daytime temps are forecasted to be slightly above freeze for the next few days and below freeze by mid next week We're looking at a perfect ending of this years season. With the amount of snow we have in the mountains and the late spring with little melting so far local government may allow trails to be open until May 20.
IMO Summer can wait hahaha summers are overrated LOL

Today me, wifey and the kids went for a short ride to our cabin on the lake Gagga. I rode from home while wifey and kids drove by car to the parking lot close by our cabin.
Start odo.
I picked up the Nila sleigh and picked them up at the parking lot. Pic shot outside our cabin.
We did some more kitchen install. Later in the day my brother-in-law paid us a visit. He's riding a '07 Apex RTX with ArcticFX graphics.

Update on trail conditions.
Heard the good news today. Season are extended for 1 more week. The county were allowed to keep select trails open for one more week, yeeehaaaa happy trails - I'm out sledding until mid May.
We are getting dumped at as we speak. Temps at noon are just below freeze and we have got 1-2" of snow since yesterday down here at sealevel. Roads were closed this morning because of the blizzards going and the gail force winds.
Weather forecast for the weekend is promising with sunny weather and below freeze temps even at mid day I guess I'm out riding a lot this weekend cause the great conditions we have right now may not last very much longer before spring sets in with the usual riding thru water and slush trail conditions.
Happy trails to all that are still riding

Thanks, I have a few rides planned for this weekend, will post more pics when done riding
After I ran into a snag with a broken front tunnel heat exchanger on my turbo sled I have invested a lot of time in fixing it up. That's why I haven't been riding this week.
Tonite I drove 340 kilometers or 210 miles by car to pic up a new track for my turbo sled as I found the old ripsaw was shot. When the studs pulled thru, and took out my heat exchanger, the track took a bad beating. It's too damaged, I don't thrust it anymore. I found a used one really cheap in the next town west of us. 4+ hours by car and I have a new used ripsaw in perfect condition ready to install. Owner told me he had replaced the ripsaw for a taller track with only 150 miles on it.
Will install the track, drive train and suspension tomorrow. Both sleds should be ready to ride saturday morning

Rxrider Thanks for the great season report
I just reviewed the whole thing............WOW THANKS
I do not have HONDO's personal experience of Norway, but my family takes great pride in the Norwegian part of our heritage, so it was great to see the landscape and read of others who love family and snowmobiling.
Thanks
