Mileage Contest- Second Ride

Ride 2 I hooked up with a friend of mine today. Asphalt Kitty got to ride his new kitty: '08 4-stroke Z1 Artic Cat. He is still breaking it in. He wanted to ride tight, twisty trails to keep his speed down so we headed for Mason Lake, NY area.

Morning rides were real good. The area had some rain last night so the trails got rough in the afternoon. Beats tracks in the grass down home. Today's ride was 100 miles.

Yeah Boomer, you did miss a great day of riding. Hope the conditions next weekend are good for you. The weather forecast for tonight is promising around here. 3-5" expected tonight into Monday. The Adirondacks are not supposed to get much, it's a coastal storm. They are saying snow on Tuesday. Let's see what happens.

If you go online you can check out snow conditions on the Webcams in the area. Where do you plan to stay next weekend? There's a lot of great places up there. Hopefully we will run into each other (not literally) on the trails.

A friend of mine rented a camp in Big Moose for the season, so we will ride out of there. I know the area real well having lived in Big Moose for 2 summers many years ago. I've only ridden the Old forge area a couple of times, but this will be my first ride of the year so this is just the break in the muscles trip.

If you see a silver RX-1 with an Apex seat with red stripe and a TY sticker on the windshield that'll be me.

I'll be looking for you.

I took the day off today to check over the sled to make sure everything is working right. When I was off loading yesterday, I noticed one of the wheels on the wheel kit was cut up. I had installed this after market wheel kit a week ago when I was putting the sled back together from asphalt racing.

Taking apart the wheel kit, I realized the reason why the wheel was cut up. The axle shaft had snapped off next to the bearing.

I'm hoping they warrantee the part as there is only 267 miles on it. Asphalt Kitty happened to have an extra axle shaft and wheel in his coooool tool box. We installed it and hopefully I am set with this. When I was wiping down the rest of the suspension parts, Asphalt Kitty noticed a crack on both slide rails. I will have to order two new slide rails now.

Get er done, and see you soon! ;)!

Mileage Contest-Third Ride

Ride 3 found me heading for Moose River Plains to meet up with Boomer. I ran into truck problems on the way. I blew a Cerpintine belt. I noticed it when going around a corner and I had no power steering and the alternator light came on. I stopped at NAPA in Speculator and they hooked me up with a new belt and pulley. Great bunch of guys! They got me running in no time.

The plans were to meet up with Boomer at the Ole Barn in Inlet at 9:00 am. We finally found each other at Big Moose Yahama around 11:00 am. When I was having my truck problems, Boomer was having sled problems. He needed a new ignition switch. I had planned on riding a 200 mile day. I came close, it ended up being 175.

Paul,
It really was great meeting and riding with you. Just imagine how many miles we could have put on if we had each not had mechanical problems to start out the day. Saturday was a terrific day for riding, and I had a blast riding Big Moose Lake (squeezing it wide open is a blast on the lake!). Sunday was lousy! Woke up to temperature of 35F and Very foggy and warming up even more. Went out for breakfast, but trails were deteriorating very quick and the fog made seeing anything a pain. Riding back across the lake back to the camp was an almost surreal experience. Out in the middle of the lake we lost all bearings and had to find the shoreline to get back home. Had the sled back on the trailer by noon and was on the way home.
I look forward to rding with you again.

Hey Boomer
Sorry to hear your ride on Sunday wasn't so good. At home here, we lost all of our snow. Haven't been riding since I was with you. Asphaltkitty and I are heading for Maine next Wednesday for a long weekend. Let me know the next time you are back in the area.
;)!

Asphalt Kitty and I finally made it up to Maine to ride with Hondo. We were able to ride four days and really put on the miles. At the end of the four days we had put on 1,075 miles. Whew!! Everywhere we went, the riding was awesome. You couldn't ask for better trail conditions.

TY Fun Contest

Riding is still no good in this area so I have to head north for snow. The riding was petty good in the morning but apparently everyone else had my same idea and rode there too. By the end of the night the mogels were 4 feet deep! Going 31 miles over a washboard wasn't exactly fun. Didn't take alot of pictures this time as I was sooo disgusted with the New York Trail System. The groomers could have been out more often.

TY Fun Contest

I had enough of Moose River Plains and their trail conditions so I decided to try a favorite lake. The lake has 10-14 inches of ice and smooth with 3-4 inches of powder. Nice day. Alot of riders but the lake is so large that if you don't want company there's alot of places to hide. The lake is famous for it's drag racing crowd.
