I have had non stop problems with the bearing right behind secondary clutch, just blew out bearing this weekend,it was only 2 years old.Prevously I've had collar go loose, nut go loose, bearing blow up.....I guess I'm going to try to dremel the rest of bearing out, anyone know what could be wrong? Anyone else have problems with this silly setup?

Did you use an oem yamaha bearing?the collar was updated for 04 year model.there are tons of posts about this, just go to search&put in rx1 secondary bearing.mine is an 03&hasn't been updated but I just pull the seal&relube the bearing every year.my collar has never loosened up.i do know the bearing is a tapered fit so that's why I'm questioning if you used oem

Yup you bet,it was a OEM bearing tapered with the updated collar and nut,I have before picked the seal off and added grease, can't remember if I did that on these ones,or it was the old ones.....I'm starting to wonder if the nut was to tight or maybe nut is rubbing the back of the seal? Or maybe I have a vibration. I'm almost tempted to re design this thing with a different bearing

Was the washer in place?Did you use locktite?also did you check the rh upper chaincase bearing?other thought is put a dial indicator on the shaft to check for runout.sorry just thinking of what it could be!!

In addition to the jack shaft run out mentioned above (great point by the way), tell us the order in which you are assembling the chain case, jack shaft and the secondary bearing?

Tightening the secondary bearing lock collar should be the very last step you make or you risk side loading that bearing.

Assemble the entire chain case and let the jack shaft rest where it may, then tighten that lock collar.

Gotter back together today after using a dremel to cut old race out,the ledge of that lock nut was definitely rubbing the hell out of back seal on that bearing you can see how shiny it is,I could be missing a washer there? So I grinded the nut flush and backed the nut off a bit after tight(my old problem was loose spinning collar) but yeah I guess the bearing did ok (2 years)with a instantly rubbed out back seal lol.She was smooth on test run.

Fortress there is no washer between the nut and the bearing..

And you should not back off the nut after tight as the collar will come loose in no time and ruin your day, your collar and maybe even your shaft.

I don't understand why that lock nut has that ledge on it as you would imagine it would destroy a flush bearing seal as soon as its tight....glad I grinded it flush,I'll crank it tighter

Are both sides of the nut the same? When I replaced my bearing on my 07 apex I thought it was beveled on one side so that outer lip doesn’t touch the bearing seal.

Lol ok thanks I think I'm putting the nut on backwards, one side was more beveled...oops, it should be ok backwards as I made it so it won't rub. that's why I love the Internet, always learning.

yes the nut is supposed to only go on one way as picturedAlso sorry.i should have been more precise in my description, there is a spacer&washer in the following pic that I was referring to&questioning if they were in place.

Just looked at my wife's 2004 rx1 and nut is the same bevel to outside of bearing, still stumped.

Thanks for the pics, looks like they gave me wrong nut as I see the one in picture has bevel on both sides, and yes I have all the other washers just like that(thank goodness).....I'm really sick of this shaft, and sassy parts guys at stealership

Yes I've been there when I asked a dealer about my fuel filters&they said rx1 didn't have any& if i wanted i could just use inline plastic atv filters down in the tank☹.anyway those nuts are not all the same although they look similar there are many different #'s also not sure if you have the chaincase apart but definitely check the upper bearing in case (probably seen some shocking/loading from the other bearing going bad.
