Secondary tower studs overtightened

Had my secondaty apart to clean and change out the spring. Manual says to torque the nuts on the helix to 17 ft lb or 23Nm. I set the wrench and double checked it. Long story short i stretched the studs from over torquing them. Wrench never clicked so i decided to take helix off and see what happened. Any suggestions for installing the new set of studs. Would you use Some locktite to set them, then tighten nuts?

17ft lbs is hardly any resistance at all. The torque wrench either clicked (its so faint you have to sit there and wait to feel the little 1/64 movement of a click) or your wrench is faulty.

A good snug pull on a 8" long 3/8" ratchet is a good 20ft lbs easy (roughly of course!). I'd say test your torque wrench on bolts in a vice just to see if you feel it click...or grab a new 3/8 torque wrench.

Ok sounds good. Ill bench test it for sure. wont likely use that wrench again. Studs are like $3 Dealership is an hour away. Lol...what a pain in in the #*$&@.

Yeah thats no fun! I'm the same distance for my dealer as well so I feel your pain lol.

When bench testing just go super slow and steady. You'll be surprised how little pull it takes to throw out 17ft lbs.

I do Loctite the studs in but not needed. Just makes it nice not having stud come loose Everytime nut is removed. Double nut the stud to torque it in.

I use a inch/lb torque wrench when tightening small bolts. I find it to be more precise

You probably didn't stretch the studs, I bet you pulled the threads out of the clutch, I have seen that happen before.
