I know it has been discussed and I've searched it, when the bearings are serviced most of you are getting grease into the bearing without removing bearing from shaft, correct? I have located a fitting to attach to my grease gun and will try to get grease behind the cover to lub bearing. Is this how most are doing it? Thanks..randy....

Just carefully peel the dust covers off, push grease into the bearings and then replace the seals. Use a tiny screw driver, knife blade, etc. to pry the covers off. Do not distort them, and they will pop right back on.

I pulled the outer seal off both bearings, using a very small screw driver. They came off very easy. I used my compressor at low psi and wd 40 to blow out the old grease. Then pushed in grease by hand as I rotated the bearing.

Why not just change the bearing on the PTO side. I don't believe you need to pull the track to do this or rear skid? I believe NOS-DAN did this once.

Hard to get a definite number. My jackshaft went out on my RX-1 at 3400 miles. After 900 miles this year on the Apex, both bearings had water in them. They need to be greased by hand at least once a year.

That is correct. IF, you do not wait until it seizes or disintegrates.

Mine were full of water last year. I cleaned them then and used Mobil 1 sythetic grease. I just went to replace the bearings this year and the grease looked as it did last year when I put it in. ( the new bearings are on the shelf)

snappy, how could you miss all the talk about this issue? You joined in 03. has the dealer been doin it on yours?
There is 1 bearing behind the secondary, 1 behind the speedo cover 1 on the top of chain case and one on the bottom of chain case. The two on the left side are the bad ones that need attention, around three thousand miles. good luck, its not that hard to do! Honk

i have been having them all replaced every other season.about every 5000 miles.i was thinking mabey if i lubed them every year they might last 3 or 4 years.

sled dog, how long have you gone? You may be livin on borrowed time my friend! two years and 3,000 miles is about it, without a repack or replace.
