Installed a stage 2 s/c with arp 10mm head studs, putting on a cometic .060 custom head gasket. Want to run at 10 psi. Does this gasket lower the compression enough to use 91 octane without detonation?

That will drop your CR to 9.97:1 and you would need 90.4 octane to be safe. So 91 your good at 10 psi.

That is my exact set up for my 10 psi pump fuelie SC apex and my plan to run 91,92,93 what ever is available

I also plan on carrying some NOS racing octane booster it actually works and might give you a margin of safety if you get to some iffy gas or in a pinch some lower octane and LIGHT throttle to get you to a better fuel station.

Running 91 with 90.4 octane requirement is a tight race with detonation IMO. 92 and 93 would be fine. Add some octane booster (one that actually works) when running 91.

DO NOT attempt to run it on 87, no matter what.

Anybody know what the effect of NOS octane boost is say on gas with 10% ethanol? Its common around here that we get 90 octane mid grade that has ethanol, I know the MMT in the octane booster works well in straight gas but not sure how well with a ethanol mix?

Also here is a link to the booster that will take 91 and make it 92.8 octane:

Make SURE its the off road formula, any on road formula will change it less then a 1pt in octane.

You have a PC3+IGNITION CONTROLLER can you pull a few degs of timming on big end? 2-3 would be great!! And add 2-3 down low!! :) :)

Been there done that..... scraped the engine....

Thanks MulotTurbo for sharing your costly earnt knowledge with us way back when. I had you in mind writing it, you learnt the hard way so we don't have to. I'm glad to help a fellow sledder from making such a mistake by passing on what I've learnt from you. Sharing our experiences are one of many things that makes TY what it is.

Thanks a ton guys. I would be interested in knowing which octane booster works the best and how many points the best boosts the octane #. I have seen mant posts on this subject and my head is still spinning. Some real world results or some independent lab results would be great. Hey Skydog I am going to start a post on tuning my pc-3 for the s/c as I need some advice on where to start and the correct procedure. Thanks.

you guys should consider Torco it is one of the only additives that actually add multiple points to your octane, It comes in 32 oz cans that can be carried in your back pack or on the sled. it will turn 10 gallons of 91 into 100 oct.

This is a great alternative for places you can only get bad fuel at.

I have heard good things about it! In the boating world!!

Torco fuel accelerator...used it & it is the only octane boost that really works. it is actually concentrated race fuel.

want to try it muloth? i have some in stock :jump:

Will try it on my rx1 mountain which runs on 91 octane.

So will fill de tank with 87 octane, then pour this bottle into it, then go out in the field..

are you willing to pay engine damage if it goes kaboom?
