Mine did that too! found it when i was replacing the track this summer. As schlick55 said, no more studs down the center for me.

Looks like stud damage to me...not only installing larger idler wheels will alleviate slider wear, but it should help here too.

See WTF. My RTX has a nylon roller on each side of the shock head so the track can't hit. Why did they not do all teh FX Nytro models like that?

Mine was the same. Not as bad but the same. I filed the rough spot smooth. I want to a 2" challenger so no more studs for me. But if I would have kept the studded track than I would have taken out the ones in the centre of the track. That part of the skid takes a beating, I tried bearings on the bottom of the shock and they lasted one ride. I think the flex in the track will be there even with bigger idler wheels. I have about 1000km on the 2" track and the shock looks the same, no extra wear.

You could weld a 2" pipe over the top of it and end the issue

i have had this happen with my Phazer. POS Yamaha design. Had o replace the shock twice. The front wheels are junk and when they fail look out! I need to pull the skid on my Nytro to see how it is doing.
Not too happy with this design. Very poor Engineering Yamaha!!

I'm also going to have to guess stud issues. Only other thing is if you have a bad or missing bushing/collar some where in the linkage.

It's been an XTX issue since day one.
Yamaha's blunder and mounted the shock too low. Who knows why?
I put in a longer shock bolt in and a slightly larger diam. steel bushings on each side.
First I tried bearings but they failed very fast.
This is along the same idea as the bearings but rather solid steel.
Now the track rubs and wears on steel. Not the shock.
See pic.

I took apart the skid last night and the reason my shock is worn badly is the lower bushing was worn and allowed the shock to settle down towards the track. I have to do something and will post pics of skid when I am done with mod. Thanks for all the help.

Get somebody who can weld aluminum and have them build the area backup with weld. Shape it with a grinder and take out the studs that are touching. I talked to hygear at haydays last summer. They said they could make repairs to the shock for that problem.
