I was looking for honest opinions. Its been a crazy winter and I did not get to ride due to my time off when there was no snow.

I have a 2009 Nytro RTX with 501 miles on it. The oil was last changed in April of 2010 with 168 miles on the sled. Mobil 1 0-30 Full Synthetic was used in the oil change in which I have only put 333 miles on it since. I will not have a chance to ride the sled until January/February 2013

I would, there is not only a mileage factor but time plays a role in oil breaking down.

Much less with synthetic oil but I would change it anyway.

That's not a lot of miles on some good oil, but if it were me I would still change it. It's cheap insurance.

I was considering it, the fact is, it would be darn near 3 years of the same oil in the crank case the next time I go to ride the sled.

Yep, replace the oil.

I change the oil every summer, plus i change the oil in the tank mid season.
Its like half an hour job, or one hour for the complete replacement.

I changed the oil and filter on my Phazer pre-season (I think in late October) to get ready for the winter that wasn't. Used Klotz synthetic and Yamaha filter. Only started the sled once or twice after the oil change ... never saw a single mile of riding this year :o|.

Changing the oil in the Phazer takes time, but as has been stated here, oil does break down just sitting. So would you change it or let it sit for the summer? If let it sit, would you change it again pre-season? Thanks in advance for the replies.

Don't bother changing it. You never got any contaminates in it to cause salts or acids to form. Oil is basically good for years and years if not used. It's exposure to combustion gases, moisture and heat that degrade it.

I too did not get on many miles this year and my Yamaha dealer said to wait until the fall when we get them back out... To each their own I guess...

Having said this, an oil change is a must irregardless of mileage cuz of the breakdown of it...

It is like Roadrider is saying, when putting milage on, the combustion causes acidic level to go up in the oil. This is why you are better to change out your oil in the spring vs fall.

Thanks!! I found it. I will save it for an October weekend
