Hey guys, I just joined this site and love it!! Amazing feedback.
Anyways, i am looking to get a better ride out of my 08' Nytro (i do about 90% trail riding) Should i get dooly carbides; or screw it and get all new skis??
What brand is the best for each??
Thanks.

I'll pick one of these posts to respond to. I'd go with Slydog race skis, the trail ones are a bit thin for my taste. I put the trails on my 08 and its been awesome. A friend tried it before and after and pronouced "those are worth double what you paid for them for what they did to the sled." I have no regrets (other than buying the trail over the race).

If you go with the carbides get the Stud boy dualies. I put them on my wifes Vector LTX gt and they are awesome

I have C&A Razors with 7.5" Shaper Bars on mt Nytro and love them. I've tried Dullys before on different sled and hated them. Sure they get rid of the darting, but pusked in the corners.

The problem I found with the stock ski was it didn't float very well and it had a sloped keel so it pushed in the corners. It wasn't the carbides fault (in my opinion), it was the skis.

Dually push bad in the corners. I like the pilots for the money. $74.99 on ebay each from Honda East. Just use Shaper 7.5 in carbides in the center and some cheap 4in on the sides. It's like adding power steering, without the darting.

The stud boy deuce bars have very little push with the stock skis ($80/set). If your not studded go with 4.5" carbide.
If you can afford it buy good skis.

I had woody's dually's on and widend the ski stance it helped alot. But this year I went with Slydogs and love them and would never go back to stock skis. My buddy also has a nytro and now he wants a pair. The biggest decision for you is your budget. Good luck and

From what i gathered from this site and talking to other guys the ski doo pilots are the most cost effective way to go... what size carbides are you guys running with no studs??

I was in your boat this season. New sled, figured I would try the skis with shims and Bergstroms.
Do yourself a favor, toss the stock skis.
No studs, 6" triple points and these piece of craps still push in the corners. Also, the stock skis just suck completely if there is any loose snow at all. They are like plastic torpedoes in the loose stuff.
I ended up going with Slydogs ( race) and Bergstroms 8" ( have studs now). I'll be putting on the new skis this week and riding Saturday. By looking at the skis, they look like they will actually grab the snow now in turns. The bottom keel is angled in, so looks like it will work well.
If you couldnt tell, I HATE the stock skis. Especially on an 08.
Also, as for the 08, 300 miles and my front bushings are already on their way out. Keep an eye on yours.

i'd ditch the stock skis if you can afford it.
they offer no float whatsoever.
I ditched mine for simmons...I'll never go back!

I was running the stock ski's with stud boy deuce bars all last year and the first ride this year. I have hated the handling and inside ski lift from day one with my XTX and have never been able to tune out the problem. This year I went with hygear triple rates and they helped but, then a friend got a set of 6.9 pilots for his rage. He was on his way to Mexico for his honeymoon and volunteered his skis to me to try while he was gone. After the first ride I went and ordered a pair. There are a bunch of posts about pilot ski's on the forum check them out. I have not gotten enough miles on them in varying conditions to fully evaluate them yet but, initial one ride evaluation in crappy conditions they flattened out cornering, lighter steering and track true with no darting. If you have friends that are willing to let you try there ski's the rubbers are only 20 bucks.
Cost for ski's, zx chassis bumpers, grab rails, stock 4" carbides on the outside via babbits.com was 270 bucks, then I got 6" studboy shaper bars for the middle 90 bucks from local stealer (babitts doesn't sell them). So for 350 bucks or so they are a cheap option.
SCRAP the stockers!

Another ski that works good on many different model sleds are the SLP powder pros. I have them on my Viper and found a good deal on them last year on the net. They corner great with my cobra tack and float great in the deep stuff too. The thing I really like is they have two mounting holes. One is aggressive and the other is good if you start to experience darting. Jack the sled up an inch off the ground, pop the bolts and use the other mounting holes.......5-10 min. job and the darting is gone. Pretty slick IMO.
