Sidewinder SRX Overheating

Thank you for all the comments. Interesting about running faster when the conditions aren’t great to throw up more snow. I had fewer issues on the way out when we were running hard, but much more on the way back when I was going slower hoping I wouldn’t overheat the engine (sounds like I had it backwards). Looking forward to the 2022 launch on Tuesday to see what they’ve added (other than power steering), but expect I’ll be a Sidewinder convert for next season assuming my spring order gets delivered on time.

Anyone have more details on the 2022 sleds?

I borrowed a 2021 Sidewinder SRX from my local dealer a couple of days ago and absolutely loved it. However, it was a warm day and it started overheating after an hour into the ride. We stopped for lunch and let it cool down, but the same thing happened on the way back several times. I realize the riding conditions weren’t ideal, but my buddy was driving my ski-doo 900 and didn’t have any issues. I’m really interested in getting a 2022 SRX, but it seems based on my quick scans through the forum that this is a common issue with the Sidewinders. Any perspective / feedback from Sidewinder owners would be much appreciated.
Unfortunately this is normal in some conditions. Cooling system is not designed well. Scratchers should come on sled from dealer.

Go buy a antifreeze tester from your local auto supply. Test your antifreeze. My 2018 and my 2021 srx came with straight antifreeze, it will be off the scale on tester . Dilute your antifreeze with distilled water until it reads between-35 and -40 f problems will go away. Also add water wetter to sys . No need for ice scratchers .

I picked up my 18 SW last week and went riding in VT over the weekend, and needless to say day one was not a good day, it started off well and was about 30 minutes into a 2 hours ride and had the limp mode kick in about 8-10 times, at then at then at end of the ride everything went back to normal...it was weird. I thought I had a bad thermostat or an electrical issue tied into the cooling system. I came to the forum for information and determined that scratcher are essential equipment for the SW. I went to the local dealership and scored a set of wire-type scratchers and a quart of rad fluid. I added some radiator fluid and installed the scratchers, the next day I went out and clocked about a 100 miles and the temp gage stayed between 165 and 168. The conditions were identical to the previous day with hard packed trails and ambient temps were about 20F. There was spirited riding ( ;-) ) on uneven terrain with an occasional break every now and again, and my personal rule is never let the machine idle past 3 minutes once it is warmed up.

My 07 & 11 Apexes that were riding with me this weekend did not have the overheating issue, the Winder is a different beast that runs a bit hot, but it can be managed with a little care - I totally dig this machine!
