Hey guys, I have an opportunity the first week of April to run a 50th 137 Sidewinder at around 3000ft. The conditions will be corn snow and a little powder 6" to 18" depending on the day, location, trail, bowl. We go every year but this year a few new people are coming (we rent 2 large chalets on the mountain about 18 people in total but not all sledding) so I met a guy on the weekend that is coming and he has 2 Sidewinders. He bought them for him and his wife, he is going to snow check a new SRX and wants to get some miles on his wife's machine to justify the $$$$ he spent to buy it. So he offered me his wife's sled for the 10 day trip, his wife's sled has a total of 84 miles on it, 100% stock riding a 1.25" track with 144 studs down the middle. He's going to trade in his Winder (1900 miles right now) for the new SRX, but wants the other one to get some miles on it saying his started to come around at about 900 miles on it, so he kind of wants me to beat on it to loosen it up for his wife as he's keeping it for her despite the lack of use. They're both at the dealer getting serviced for the trip, oil changed (no idea why on his wifes machine), chain case, etc, etc.
So I'm going to grab a few drive belts to use on the trip and then leave with the sled. I assume stock belts are good unless you have another suggestion. Anything else I should grab for the sled well I'm at the dealer? I did see a set of used Pilot 5.7 for sale $200 with 8" and 4" carbide locally, I know a few guys that ride Winders and they all have 5.7 or 6.7's on their machines.
I weight 175lbs, I always carry a 25lbs nap sac, just wondering where to start with the suspension set up and good/great transfer at about 50-70 mph. His wife is a whooping 100lbs so he said he just turned everything to the lightest setting but didn't touch the front track shock. Trails are generally in great shape sometimes a little chop but nothing really so no 2-3ft trail junk, a little bit of tight stuff but mostly wide fast trail with a lot of elevation change. I tend to like my sleds set up pretty firm in the front, limiter out, front track shock a little firmer to help transfer, back shock and spring is pretty straight forward but suggestions are welcome. Figured I'm a member on here, as I looked really hard at a Winder a while ago and you guys where very helpful so I thought I'd ask so I can at least be close from the get go, I asked him about setting up the machine and he said he only knows that they take GAS. Thanks guys appreciate your time and direction.
