You guys know I have been looking at buying a yamaha 120 Hp class sled....finally got the chance to test ride a new vector er, and phazer fx over the weekend in Minocqua (Yamaha demo rides). It was kinda cool..the test ride took you out for about 30 minutes across the lake, and up a railrode grade...not too long...and I never really got to open either sled up on the lake...but it was a nice mix of what an average trail rider would see...so you really could get a decent idea of what the yamis are like. Here are my thoughts:

07 Vector ER...

The Good: I was very impressed with the throttle response, and quietness of the engine..the front end worked well, stayed flat..never took any bad jolts through the bars..the monshock is one of the plushest riding rear suspensions I have ever sampled...Supertrax was right on with their review of this rear it is truely a good one....good weight transfer too.

The Bad:..not that it was bad..but I had a heck of a time getting used to the engine braking...almost put me over the bars...lol....I guess that is something you have to get used to....also, though it was warmer riding than my rev...it was still not a warm sled to ride in cold conditions...caught alot of wind on upper legs.

Overall: I was very impressed with this sled....I was thinking Nytro..but might change my mind...the vector is more comfy, and I believe the monoshock is more than capabile for rough trails ..don't listen to slow goer magazine..try one for yourself..I believed what they said...now I know better...IMO they are wrong..the mono is a great rear skid..the best I have ridden on..I was going to choose the nytro, because I liked my rev and rider forward...but now after riding the vector...I am not so sure..maybe rider forward is over-rated and all you need is a good rear skid...don't know...but being a taller guy(6'1")..I was alot more comfortable on the vector than I have been on my rev....the only thing I hope is the vector is as fast as my rev 600 Ho..it feels stronger down low....but...not sure...never got to hold the vector to the bars, and seat of the pants wise it's hard to tell...if the vector were studded..I am sure it would pull my rev up to 70 mph at least.

As I mentioned I also rode the phazer fx....I am not impressed with this sled....sure it's quick and light...but IMO it is everything I hate about the REV....cramped riding position, and low to no wind protection. I did not like the seat..it just didn't feel all that comfy on my fat azz...lol..it was rather squirrely too...I couldn't get back on the vector fast enough.
I would say anybody over 35, who's used to riding 120 plus HP....don't waste your time with a phazer....IMO...the phazer is a ditch bangin kids
sled...and the vector is a better older fella's sled (like me)..lol

One thing you did not mention...after a 206 mile ride from Barnveld to Stillwater reservoir, ripping and chewing with Barnstormer's Phazer and another bud on one of my ex RX-1's, I still got over 19 mpg on my 05 Vector. The mileage and ability to run hard and fast all day are unbeatable. No sled gets this kind of range/mileage running this hard. None. That 3 cylinder is a marvel.
PS, on the loose snow on Stillwater, I saw 90, and the RX1 was not pulling ahead. Lots of drag. My guess is they may do an honest 100 in ideal conditions. Maybe a tick more. While still getting 17 mpg...lol.

SumpBuster, I sure hate to bust your bubble, but I ride with a doo 600 sdi, and he beats me in gas mileage every time, If I get 21 mpg, he will get 23. We've been riding togather for the past 3 years and I might of beat his gas mileage once or twice. So I wouldn't say none. But the Vector is one sweet sled and I'm not complaining about my gas mileage in any way. Heritage, good post.

As an owner of a vector for 2 1/2 seasons now I can tell you this sled is solid.................... I have 2,800 verrry troulbe free miles.. Great gas mileage.. I'm always setting off to the side while my smoker buds fill up.. I have gotton as much as 21.9 mpg. average 18.5... "NEVER" has it needed oil between changes.. Love the engines sound.. No darting.. At all. I have duece bars and that's it.. MM.

You'll have no troubles keeping up with the 600 ho or the 600 SDI from DOO. I ride with both and they are all about dead even on the top end. Vector beats both out of the hole. The SDI has more HP than the 600 HO but it was a shorty small lug (HO) versus a 136" 1.75" lug on the SDI. PS I had to tow the HO back from a blown mill last year. Something you won't have to do with the vector motor, these mills are as bulletproof as they come.

Throw the REV on Doo Talk and sell it outright.

Wow, I'm surprised the resale value on the REV is so poor. Then again, I know the used sled market is flooded right now.

Hope it works out for you getting a deal on a Vector GT. One thing to keep in mind is that if you don't end up liking the seating position, you can always install a Nytro seat on there to make you sit a little higher.

If you like the feel of the stock Vector GT seat but want the more upright ride of the Nytro, slap an Apex GT seat on it. Foam is the same consistency, seating surface is the same texture and the silver strip is close enough that most Non-Yamaha experts may not notice the difference. Oh, you also get a trunk that'll keep your spare gloves warm till you need them, something that can't be said for the stock Vector GT.
