About to order skid plate for my Viper. Almost positive im going to order the White Arctic Cat one because I want white. Ive read from a few people that they installed the arctic cat one with no issues. Now my question is.... Exactly how difficult is it to install one? Does anyone have Pictures of their install? Or any input they want to give please do!

This may have been a earilier post in the past but I wanted to be more specific.. Thanks!

The Cat 7000 should be exactly the same install. Install instructions (from Yamaha at least and probably plagiarized from Cat are quite good). Difficulty is a matter of skill level, it should be somewhere between not bad and boy was that easy.
I do recommend drilling 1/4 holes in the bottom of all the ribs to allow water to drain. Water likes to collect and freeze and try to push the skid plate off the sled, this happens while you are just parked to go for lunch let alone if you have to park for extended periods or load and trailer.

I got a blue one I never put on would make great deal on It to you

Go to user albums and look at "yamahaguys" XTX pictures, they have pictures of two XTX's with installed rear skids. Best pictures I've seen so far. Might even want to PM them. They are knowledgeable and helpful!

I ordered a blue one. Thanks for all the info, I def will be drilling holes to allow water escape that sounds like a good idea.

I did talk to (Yamahaguys) on another post. His album was very helpful.

They are not hard to put on, we spent about a hour and half just taking our time putting the first on one, the second one was faster. They fit the sled very well. Be ready to drill a few holes in the plastic and and drill out a few rivets also but your using the skid plate for the template so its easy. There are some pics on my album of the white skid plate on page 2. after it was installed.

Got my skid plate mounted up to the sled, that was much easier than I expected! Happy. Only question I got now is the rear holes by the heat exhanger.. The intructions dont say anything about drilling the area, not to mention whats on the otherside of that area? I saw in your pictures of your skid plate you have 4 screws drilled in there. I have 4 self tap screws left over which came with the kit. Im guesssing that those are the 4 that will go in that area. Dont mind the holes drilled in the ridges of the skid plate I did that so the water could drain lol

What did you do in the area shown in the picture???

Did you pre drill the holes and use those Self Taper Screws the kit provided?
Sure did! The 1st time I change my oil in both... I will replace all those cheap screws that came with the skid...with good quality stainless screws!
I would think the stock screws will start to get rusty soon....?

If you take your side panel off can you see where the screws came through under the motor????

Yes you can left side, there's already 2 holes there in the aluminum the skid holes are about a 1/2 in off the existing holes.
The existing holes are to big for the screws you have, why they didnt use those holes for the skid makes no sense to me?
Have a look under the clutch with a flashlight, you'll see....
