I have a 2016 XTX se new for this year and I'm looking at accessories for it, I plan to do a bit of off trail riding (trying to keep up with my riding buddies who all ride freerides) I noticed it says the upraged bumpers and the skid plates will not work with each other (i dont know why? probably due to where they bolt up) what do you guys recommend? bumper or skid plate to protect against stumps and rocks? and which bumper or skidplate?
Yamaha rear full skid and a bumper that goes under nose. Highly advise at least the skid must protect the sides.

I recommend the Rear Skid Plate (P/N# SMA-8JP34-RR-BK) and Front Skid Plate (P/N# SMA-8JP34-FR-BK). From what I have read through various postings here, the Viper bulkhead lets snow in pretty easily, leading to bogging, steaming, and other issues. However, when you install these two plates, you seal off areas where snow can get in and prevent the issues above.
I have run these plates on my 2014 SR Viper XTX SE and have never had any issues and they have kept me out of many expensive trips to the dealer.
Whatever you pick for a plate, you really can't go wrong.

How long does the rear take to install? (Do I need to turn heat on in garage, or is it a quick job)

Unfortunately, I had my dealer install the plates over the summer while the sled was still at their shop so I can't determine how long it would actually take. From what I can tell by taking the side panels off and looking at the set-up, I believe it would take a half-hour to drill and mount the rear skid plate.

thanks, I think I'll go with the rear skid plate and the sport front bumper, I really like the racewerx bumper but I'm not paying $600 CDN for it. Any issues with slush buildup with the rear skid plate?

I have the 2016 XTX SE and installed the sport front grab bar and rear skid plate. It you have never mounted a Viper rear skid plate, I would allow more than 1/2 hour to do it. I know that I am no mechanical genius, but it took me about 1 1/2 hours to do my first one; I still have a second one to do, and while I learned some shortcuts from the first experience, I would still allow an hour to do it. If you follow the instructions, you have to temporarily mount the plate with screws to mark the holes for drilling, and then take it off to drill the holes and then remount it with screws and bolts. You have to drill out 4 rivets, and enlarge one screw hole; the other holes are through the plastic panels, and not too bad to get at. The most difficult part of the process for me was getting access to put nuts on a couple of the bolts on the right side of the sled. In some instances it was tough keeping the skid plate tight enough to the body to get the nuts on the bolts. Another 1/4" of length on the bolts would have made the job easier, and saved me 15-20 minutes!

That flotation plate does not protect the sides like the Yamaha rear skid. I have one sitting in my attic for that reason. Make a offer. It's white just like row bees. Do not waste time on any skid that does not protect the sides unless you can guarantee never hitting anything under the snow.
