Will the yamaha ultra skid plate interfere with changing the oil filter?Does anybody have any suggestions on skid plates?I'm not a big fan of the look that the flotation skid plate gives the machine.

I DON'T MIND THE LOOK OF THE FLOAT PLATE IN 12-14" OF POWDER.
KEEPING THE FRONT END UP IS WHAT I LIKE.
TO CHANGE OIL AND FILTER I PULL OUT THE BACK 4 MOUNTING BOLTS AND PULL PLATE DOWN TO GET AT BELLY PLATE

I have the Yamaha skid plate and you have to unbolt it to change the oil. It uses the same 4 screws that bolt the cover on but you have to unbolt the 2 screws up in the nose under the bumper.

X2, I like the looks of them also. And i would never not have one. I have seen guys wreck bulk heads from not having one.

Off the subject but I have a black skid plate and would like to trade it for a white one if any one is interested. Thanks

I have to un-bolt the skid plate to change the oil filter. I think the extra time to do this is worth not losing my bulkhead to an unseen rock/stump, etc.

When you install a Yamaha skidplate do you leave the original plastic sump cover in place or do you leave it off?

Takes about 2 minutes to take off before changing oil filter. My suggestion is get one. Added protection.

Leave it on and install the skid plate over it.

Couple lbs maybe. It's not huge by any means, but like NLVMAX said earlier, great to have incase you snag a rock or a stump. Saved me once already.

Did anyone ever figure out how to stop the ice build-up issue in the yamaha skid plate. The ice would bulge the skid plate so bad is would fall off. I tried drilling holes in the skid plate and sealing of the engine compartment but it didnt work. Any idea's??

I too am intereested in this. I know the FLOAT plate has cut outs, but the skid plate does not. I'm looking to add one or the other, but don't want the ice build up issue.

There is something in the works. Its not stacked on top of anything else so you don't have the hydraulic effect that the snow and ice have now. Fits as good as OEM , and fastened even better but is a skidplate and not a floatplate.
