the temp around here for the last month has been +10f or more. Today we dipped down to -6f and the sled did not start. Never even blurb or cough anything. I had to use my Nytro (same engine) to pull it into the garage! Is there anything I can do to help this out?
2015 viper mtx turbo Mpi.

did you do the recent ecu update recall?

No, I just picked up the sled on thanksgiving. Would a 2015 need it?

I did mix race gas 102 1/1 with the regular 86 they put in it, averaging 94ish. Is the octane to high for a cold start combustion?

I'm honestly unsure if the 2015 would need it. You can always call ur dealer and ask if your sled needs the update or not

I have a 2014 viper rtx no motor/intake/exhaust mods.
This past weekend at 19 f degrees my sled would not start.
I turned it over 5 times, holding the key for about 10 seconds each time.
Nothing. Not even a caugh like it was catching.
On the 6th try it caught stumbled a bit then stalled.
On the 7th try it fired and stumbled but stayed running. Eventually it straightened itself out and idled fine.

I have had some hot and cold starting issues but never anything quite as bad as this. Embarrasing with other people watching me.
Mine has not had the ecu reflash.
I think you should call the dealer with your vin # they should be able to help you out with reflash info

I don't have much seat time with my viper, but owned my nytro for a while. I found the best way to start this engine when it is very cold out is to cycle the key just so the fuel pump kicks in and let it prime, turn key off, turn key back on and let fuel pump prime again and then try to start it.

Many hi octane fuels ignite and burn at a significantly higher temperature than standard automotive fuel and could be 500 vs 300 degrees. So a mix could still be 100 degrees higher than 87 octane. Looks like you diagnosed your own issue. I suspect that is one reason Yamaha specifies and designed an engine for low octane fuel!

I mix 110 and 93 and have no problems at that temp.

January 3 I returned home from a trip the temperature was -4 overnight and 7 degrees F when I arrived home. My Viper XTX SE was loaded on the trailer the day before we had bee riding in a bit of powder and it was cold all day (14 F). when I tried to start the engine to put it I the garage it would crank but not start (note I checked the kill switch). Normally when I start the sled I can hear a something that I assume is the fuel pump pumping fuel, that evening I could not. It reminded of the cold start issue I had with the Nytro. The next morning it was raining and the sled started. The sled did not fail to start for the dealer while in the shop and it has not failed to start since.

By the way the sled belongs to my spouse, (although I refer to it as mine on this form,) who refuses to have anything to do with BRP. She loves Yamaha so any help would be greatly appreciated.

the remap helped mine a lot. went to MI with another viper. same year, same miles, mine has the remap his doesn't. on friday morning after sitting outside without covers at -15 mine started like it was 30 out. r-r-fire and ran. his took 3 tries at 10 seconds each to run. when warm his will roll twice, fire, kill, and keep rolling it over to start in two more rolls holding key. (r-r-fire-r-r-start) which is what mine would do. after remap starts perfect. he has yet to do the remap. the early 15s need the remap too.

Mine did this exact same thing 3 times last year. Crank but no pump and no start. Darn near left me stranded twice. It was a bad connection in throttle block. Replaced throttle block and no more issues.

I have found that this works the best as well

My dealer reflashed my rtx le,he said the "early" builds need to be treated like a.14. It was -4 here Thursday n it fired up first try w/o that when it was 13f it tookv4 turns of the key b4 we could get her lazy #*$&@ to start the day.

What was the date of your sled my dealer said no for re flash and my was April (14) heard only xtx needed re flash very interesting .only had out once and not overly cold.

mine is a 15 did same thing had to remove fuel pump relay in fuse box warm it up in my hands and reinstall then it started -27 c I am changing relay before I go north again and keeping a spare hard to get at also
