I just got back from a trip and I can't start my phazer to get it out of my truck.
When I turn the key the screen lights up and the fuel pump kicks in but the starter won't engage or even click.
Does anyone have any ideas???
I was in powder yesterday and I had to leave it outside last night, but there is no visible ice/snow near the fuse block.
Thanks

yup you can turn key to on. wrap your clutch start it reverse it and thaw it out. then look in your toolbox and get a BFH and beat the crap out of it now before its too late lol

What he is saying is your starter might have spun. Before you go through the hammer thing try jumping the two big wires on the solenoid.Even with a bad starter the solenoid should make a click when energized.

Thanks guys... I did a search and found out that the solenoid sometimes freezes. I 'jumped' it with a screw driver and fired it right up.
Thanks

Any chance you might have a picture of where/how you jumped it with a screwdriver.....been a little concerned about all the relay issues around. Don't want to get stranded somewhere.

I will get a picture tomorrow or the next day for you 200smk.
But if you follow the positive (red) wire from the battery,(take off the right side cover), you will see where it connects to a terminal which is up next to the fuse block. There are 2 terminals side be side with rubber flaps on them similar to the positive battery terminal. Just move the flaps out of the way and once you turn your key on, hold a screwdriver accross these two terminals while the engine cranks until it starts. It will spark a fair bit so be careful.
In the service manual, this procedure is listed as one of the trouble shooting procedures to check the starting motor or solenoid I do beleive, although it suggests using a piece of wire.
Hope this helps

As you can see in this picture ahead of the battery there is a fuseblock and ahead of that you can see where the red lead from the battery goes. It connects to another terminal for the starter solenoid. The solenoid terminals are under rubber caps, similar to the one found on the battery

In the second picture you can see how I have the terminals uncovered. To jump these terminals, you merely have to cross them with a screwdriver/wire or other metal object.
NOTE: It will spark a fair bit when you cross them and you have to hold it in place until the engine starts, usually atleast 2 or 3 seconds if you have the cold start update done.

EDIT: I'm not sure if I attached the picture right but I can email them if it is more convenient.

The cold start update reprograms the computer I believe, and maybe changes a part or two, but all I know is that it starts a hell of a lot easier now. While I never had the problem of it not starting in temps that were too cold, like many others were, it would take almost 10 or 12 seconds of cranking until the engine would start to fire. Now it only takes about 2 or 3 seconds.
As far as I know, the cold start update is free. At least it was for me and I'm out of warranty. They completed it when I had it in for the steering recall. I think it only applies to the 07s and maybe 08s though.
