The snow will be here soon!!!!!
I read through all the posts about slide hyfax wear fixes. What I have found in talking to other nytro owners is that the initial half of the slides wear down real fast!!!! I also found this to be true as well.....What I am wondering is are most people finding the last 1/8" lasts a real long time? Most of my wear is near 12-18" from the rear of the skid...There is also a set of holes near this area on the rail. Long story short, I am looking to reduce the wear, but dont want to replace ALL the wheels!!!! Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!

not the best pic of my skid, but this is what I've done...I got this from my buddy raptordan. My slide wore down evenly, all within the first 15 miles. They wore down almost to the the line and didn't wear anymore for 900 miles.

You might be perfectly fine if you install a set of wheels where those holes are and ride for thousands of miles without an issue. Myself, I wasn't that lucky, so I installed extra and larger wheels.

These 4strokes are friggin hard on sliders.
It's not only about waiting til they are 80% melted off before you can relax.
I just about melted the clips into my 08 slides one night on hard trails.
Kept it going just enough not to lock up solid while looking for soft white stuff, through the woods off trail. Had to stop the guys I was riding with for a cool down. Everyone all checking their own sliders and scratching their heads, huh? "Man, what's that smell coming from your brand new Yamaha,ha,ha."
My first thought was... "cheap black stock sliders, this never happened on my Poo and Doo sleds as long as I was studded I figured I'd be getting some loose stuff in there".
Anyway... soon as I found out the Yamaha's used smaller lightweight wheels.
I knew what needed to be done. The stock wheels just don't reach down far enough.
It's only money.

Just like I thought, more $ to be spent...Where does it end? LOL So I take it the marginal snow kit from Yammy is a complete waste of $ eh?

Did you replace all the wheels? If so did you buy them as a kit or just piece them together? Also what brand/size? THANKS...

Did you just add wheels to the holes toward the rear of the rail?

All your answers are in this thread. Larger wheels with the same sized bearing as the yamaha wheels. Direct bolt in replacements. The only place you'll find them.
I'd switch all the wheels, add an extra wheel or two where you can, and you should be good to go.

Yep, stock Yamaha wheels on the rear that are mounted Doo one bolt mounts ( machined to fit the the yammi bearing ) and my buddy made up a set of blocks for the front at the bend...this setup worked perfectly...I rode down a section of trail last season that was as bad as riding directly on dirt..for a few miles to boot..I should have overheated and melted down to the rail....nothing.

I have only got 2700 miles on my 08 nytro and i am now on my 4th set of sliders which will be fitted in a few days or so. But this time i have gone blue to see if its true or just an old wives tale about the colour pigment making them last longer!!! time will tell.....
I was told that white last the longest...anything with colour wears out faster..probably BS

It was actually written in a sled rag Shadow, I thought the same thing, that it was only hearsay and B.S, until I actually read it.
Needless to say, my XLT received whites last year and my Vector this year

I remember a while back that it was the white Polaris sliders that apparently were the longest lasting...I can't say though.
I don't believe a colour change will make a difference on the Nytros, but larger idlers will.

I don't understand the slide wear everyone talks about! I have an 08 Vector with over 6000km on original slides and an 09 Nytro with over 7500km on original slides. I was gonna replace the slides this year just because but I think I can get this year out of them for sure.

Just curious are any of you running scratchers ? if your melting hi faxes its cause there is no snow getting up there to help cool them and lubricate. we have two nytros that run in out group and haven't had any problems after scratchers were installed
