Been reading a lot about this latley. The Vector has a big area tword the rear of the skid with no wheel's and this is where the most wear is. I was out on the lake with 1 to 1.5 of packed snow and the slides were getting hot, I thought there was ampel lube but i guess not for this set up. I thought about scratcher's but don't like the off and on at road's, Wheel's would likley work but have had problem's with them freezing up in the past and had to constantly watch them or you will have flat spot's, I tried hyperfax and they draged hard all the time and are big $ to. At this point i think wheel's would work the best and Maximum perf has a wheel kit with six wheel's, Four in rear and two in front for $199. Does any one know of a wheel kit that will work and not be trouble. Or any other idea's, I would like to do some thing before the hard snow get's here ( if it ever does) thought's please. Thank's kviper

If it is at the very rear and on one side the 4th wheel kit may help. I have used the Maxximum larger wheel kit, but the bearings seem to go out early and you cant replace them because they are molded in. Hauck has eccentric mounts for the stock wheels. You could also use Polaris wheels as they are a little larger.
I got 400 miles on mine and they are about a third gone, but it usually slowws down after that. I dip into the powder as much as I can and that helps.

The wear lookes to be equal on booth sides although i did not measure each seperatly and larger or off set wheel's in the stock location would help but i think we will be needing some more in the big open area.By the way Tork are the trali's still rideable in presque Isle, I need to go ride some where soon but we are suposed to get some good snow over the next day or so but we have herd that before.kviper

Adam says the trails are grooming up nicely.

Last wed night the rains came and that sucked, took away about 2/3 of the snow.
Here is the info on the Hauck eccentrics to lower your stock wheels. Good price compaired to the Maxx wheel kit.

You know that they can and do wear unevenly and that is ok as long as they dont wear into the rails themselves. Another thing, if the track is too tight it seems they wear in front at the bend, if your track is too loose it seems to me that they wear at the back

kviper,
How much slide are you at now and how many miles on?
If you have seen my posts, I wore down to about 13mm by 600 miles. I now have 1000 miles on and still at 13mm in the worst location (throttle side rear, other side has 14mm).
This may not be a problem like I initially thought it would be.

Both side's look to be very close i could not get a 13mm wrench over the slide and did not try a 14 but i would say they are in the 14mm range. I think i am going to try a pair of scratcher's for those hand full of cond's for lube as well as cooling and i may also try either a pair of wheel's or the off set's for the rear of the skid as the most wear look's to be in the rear of the skid. The front of the skid at the curve does not show hardly any wear. It will no dout slow down with wear but i only have 220 MI on so far and will become an issue again later in the season in the crusty snow cond early in the morning's. Thank's for the info though and if i find a real answer i will post it. kviper

I have 160 miles so far.. The other day while I was bored--Lack of snow-- I really looked over my sliders.. I couldn't see any wear... They looked the same from front to back.. I've always had good luck with sliders. Normal range for me is 3,000 miles before changing.. That's every two seasons.. Once I went 5,000 but they needed it then-------------------badly---------MM

hyfax wear
I don't notice any wear on mine either, but I've only lucky enough to have 120 miles in so far.
My last sled (SX) went through a set every 1000 miles due to my riding habits.

Mine didn't wear much until one night in Quebec when it was -35 C.
The trail had been groomed and setup hard. We were the first sleds down it and the slides got real hot. We rode ~50km's of that trail which really put a dent in the slides. The trail was real sweet though and man were those studs hooking up....
I have ridden in marginal snow conditions since but no addditional appreciable slider wear since that very cold night in Quebec.

I have only 100 miles on sled and I can fit a 13mm wrench over my slides on the throttle side. I rode last week in fresh snow and was blazing the trail for half those miles. I have a 700 xcsp with almost 4000 miles and the hyfax looks better than my vector. What is going on.. How low can I let these go before changing and how do I stop this from happening again. I'm going to the UP this weekend and I purchased new hyfax I don't know if I should change them out or not. Between Installing fuel shutt-offs so I can trailer sled-that should have been done at factory and this issue of hyfax wear I'm realy disappointed with Yamaha and there supposedly Quality rep. that they have. I enjoy this site and It was this site that led me to purchase my new vector- I hopr somebody can come up with some answers for me.... Thanks, Sifty

First, make sure your track tension is set correctly. Second, keep in mind the first part of the hyfax wears very quickly, then slows down a bit as it reaches the replacement mark. Vt.RX1 ran over 10,000 miles on one set of hyfax set you can see the same results.
I have a set of scrapers installed on my skis that kick-up snow back into the track. I noticed that this sled had less hyfax use than the other sled on a recent trip. An inexpensive part to save hyfax wear.[/list]

I'll second the track tension one.
I run mine at the loose end of the spec (35mm at 20 lbs I believe ).
My slides are holding up now, still at 13mm and now with just over 1200 miles.

Thanks for the advice track tension good I hope that the slides will not wear any farther and I quess I will just keep a close watch on them this weekend. I have heard of scratchers before but have never seen them on a sled. Something I will have to check into. Do these scatchers were out themselves from scratching the snow and ground and are they hard to install and are they very expensive?

I had to replace hyfax after the first 500 miles on my Vector. Wear could have been due to a 60 mile ride in a lot of ice/low snow conditions. The wear was worse on the back half of hyfax. I put a wheel kit on about 5" up from rear wheels. Rode another 500 this past week and wear was very little with the new hyfax. I'm sure the wheel kit helped but also the good snow conditions up in Houghton helped as well. I am running the track loose, I'm still experiencing some ratcheting so I will continue to adjust until that goes away. I think running it to spec is too tight and can cause more wear. Adjust track to the point that it ratchets then adjust from there to eliminate it.
