Just picked up an 07 for the lady this season. It cranks a little slower compared to my Nytro. I had put the Phazer on a tender for a few days and came back and it cranked the same speed. Is this a Phazer thing or should I be looking at the starter when it comes time to change the oil and filter?

I'd sure have battery load tested first, and double check stator output.
Starters bad are not common on phazer.
Battery might seem fine but have it checked with a real load tester.

My 07 fx turns over slowly have had it for 2 years now haven't replaced the battery yet, will be this season

In my experience the phazer motor doesn't spin up as fast as the apex or nytro motors do. I've had one or two of each now and both my phazers spin slow, almost industrial like, where the current apex motor sounds like a sports car.

Yup would swear its not going to start. That slow. But a load test is best way to know. I also never crank mine more than a 3 count before starting over.

Could be perception. A three cylinder will have more compression cycles than two if they crank at the same speed.

No. My Phazer cranks at 270 rpm till it starts to fire then its 310 rpm. Viper is hard to tell since it starts instantly or within one or two rotations. Slow tach only read 100 before it fired. Definitly turns over faster.

Could be that the Phazer just doesn't need as much cranking speed to make the necessary compression. Yamaha engineers could have opted for more starter torque than speed.

Im not alone then. This is good. I'll take it in for a load test. A video will be posted as well after I get out there this weekend. Scored an NOS tunnel panel kit and got some fresh rear upper idlers (ack) and some hyfax for it too.

The Phazer cranks slow. Have had mine since 07 and has always been slow compared to my Vector or Apex. The Phazer is always hard starting in -26 c or colder weather as compared to the Vector or Apex and I blame it entirely on the slow cranking. The hard starting in the cold is my only real complaint on this sled.
