i have a 2009 phazer mtx and i am thinking about putting on a pair of slydog skis but i am not sure what one the trail and powder hounds i ride trails and powder and live in maine so at most it would be 2 or 3 feet of powder and how long of carbide 4.5 inch or six inch thanks for the help

Powderhounds, 6" carbide, setup with ski savers!

would you pretty much recommend the powder hounds regardless? even if you trail ride 90% of the time? i guess, a better question might be...where is the line at which you would buy a trail ski over the p[owder ski?

i would say whatever fits you price range. they are 1'' wider.
i bought a set of race slydog skis from a guy on here & mainly trail ride. couldn't be happier. if i do get off trail, i haven't had any problems yet.

what don't you like about your stock MTX skis? They are ALOT better than the short track skis and you won't see nearly as much of a performance gain that the short track sleds do from aftermarket skis. I know I was pleasantly surprised how well the stock MTX skis work on the trail but they DO have a huge 1" keel that the short track skis don't and the don't seem to dart too bad either.

The Yamaha MTX skiis are very good.. I agree with blueironranger. The Yamaha MTX skiis are very good!!! This coming from a Cat owner who criticizes everything blue.

I like the PH's as well, but they do dart in crusty conditions - so you have to be extra careful. I believe the race ski is a more durable ski than the regular trail or PH so if riding mostly on the trail that might be the best option. However, I don't think the PH will negatively affect handling on the trail either.

I took the Sly dog race skis I had and mounted them on my old Trail Indy. I like them for slow riding through the brush because they are longer than stock and float better than plastic Polaris skis I was using. They also go over the Alder loops better because the tips are move curved and the handles more rounded.

The down sides are the skis push a bit and they are so flexy, you think you are going to break them when tugging on the skis to get the sled unstuck.

I have Yammi MTX skis on my Attak and Powderhounds on the Mnt Viper. I like them both a lot. They are both great skis. The Powderhounds are more flexible, maybe float a little better, maybe push more in the corners, and are very easy to turn.

The Yammi MTX skis also float excellently, hardly dart, and really don't push at all in the corners. They do turn a lot harder, however.

They are both excellent skis.

Do the MTX skis use the same carbides as the short track versions. I'm referring to the Phazer version of both.
