smoothest sled

I also have the updated shock on my Apex, and it sure has alot more adjustability to dial in for a better ride for sure, alot better than the stock one it came with, I agree on the reliability of the Apex and Vectors, the 16 vector xtx is a really nice sled.

20/80 Thanks for the reply. I copied your extra fuel tank. Mount working out great! Only a 1 and a half gallon tank. But it works perfectly. My Wife unfortunately has medical issues. So I do not think she will ever ride again. So I believe I will be selling my 2016 Vector XTX 1.75 Backcountry soon. I will keep the 2017. But will install the updated shock on my 2016. Before I sell. I figure the Hygears solution is the way to go! So if it all works out. I will be very happy. Except for her problems.

ok,i have an 2007 apex RTX with custom shocks and i can tell you there is no comparison to my sidewinder ltx le with Qs3r's..I love my apex but its just straight up a dinosaur to modern sleds..The 4 cylinder motor is amazing and yamaha should bring it back with a supercharger or turbo and it would blow away the current SRX!!!They could do it too and bring back the VMAX..IT WOULD BE AN EPIC COMEBACK!!!

So sorry to here about your wife, hope it all works out for you guy's, glad to hear the fuel mount worked out for you I really like mine, if possible I would like to see a picture of yours, you will have no problem selling your xtx vector when the time comes, they are sought after, Hygear was my next go to if the updated shock didn't work out, but they are pricy, Elka sells a shock abit cheaper for the single shot but I like Hygears set up better.

Like Kingers change of the Apex to M20 I’m in the process of changing the Viper to a King air team fast suspension for the very purpose of SMOOTH. Yes i will give up top end, hey it’s a Viper never was a “Top End” sled - for that I’ll ride the Apex.
Not dialed in yet so no definitive comments other than Gerard Karpik and Brian of Team Fast are very helpful.

After I get miles on and dialed in I will report if the comfort change is what I hoped for.

Any pictures of the king air installed, like how high the rear sits, and how much does the rear drop when you sit on it

viper_dave and redbeard both love their air ride.

The sled sits just a little higher, Team Fast owner/ designer Gerard Karpik wants my ultimate drop while sitting on it to be 3 -4 inches. I was comfortable with the seat height change in very little time. Sorry no pics.

So far Ive learned that the FRA - full range adjuster- is POWERFUL I first rode it with the settings Gerard liked -he’s 100#s less- I just added a few #s to the shocks—-Big mistake- some bottoming and big Wheelies with nailing it from 20mph on packed trail.

I prefer weight shift and just slight ski lift on acceleration.

I then found the email with the settings he recommend I start with and MUCH more controlled weight shift. The ride became flat-minimal lift and some what stiff- Plan is to slowly reduce FRA to the happy medium then when optimal begin to slowly change shock pressures.

I was happy to have weight shift as some M10 / M20 riders say they miss this. Weight shift is one of the features both the written material and discussing with FAST is different with the KING AIR on the pro-cross chassis. I am now hoping to dial in the smooth ride of the M20’s like I had on VIper Dave and Red Beards M20 air sleds.
I have ridden their sleds and as you can see I liked it so much it was an expensive test ride but I think will be worth it to have the comfort they have and WEIGHT SHIFT.

I have been very limited by COVID, lack of snow and trail grooming, these are all improving so hope to ride with changed settings again soon. I now know I can get the weight shift I want now just going to work on the SMOOTH.

My 12 Apex XTX is night and day difference over the 19 137 Sidewinder I had. I have 120 miles on my 16 XTX and with a few more adjustments its going to be nice also.

I agree the King Air suspension is probably the best suspension out there. I was pointing out that the upgraded Singleshot shock was close to my M10. In my older Cat. The only problem is you are depending on one shock. So if it fails you are dead in the water. But I just want to point out that Airshocks. Thanks to Fast and Yamaha. Are the way to go. Hope I am right. But feel free to disagree. I want Hygears solution for the peace of mind to not have to hike out of the woods if my single air shock fails. But my seat of the pants dyno tells me Airshocks are King!
P.S. I bought my M10 from David Karpik. Gerards brother. It came out of a Blade Snowmobile. 136 with Titanium control arms and Titanium rear spring. Ella rear shock. These guys are innovators. Not surprised Yamaha hired Gerard. Wish they made a King Air to fit my 146.
