Neither sled made the finals. They have some work to do.

The Pro Open is complete today. No Pro classes tomorrow although some will race in the X-Games qualifier. I'm not sure if the Yamaha riders are running in that.

5th place is HUGE for a first year on a completly different kind of sled..

No...not 5th - they were down below 15th position. Didn't make the final. :o|

In my humble opinion, the Yamaha race sled sounds horrible! Even though I ride a four-stroke and like the sound of my Attak, there is nothing like the sound of a mod 2 stroke sled that is on the gas.

Matt
;)!

Well just got home awhile ago from Duluth, and let me tell you, I thought Yamaha did awsome, being the sled is new, and heavier than there used to. It does definatly have torque... a lot of torque, Robbie was right there on his holeshot everytime. I could tell they were holding back somewhat saturday, and not hitting the larger jumps, and clearing them until the end of saturday. Today, Sunday, we were informed that Espn chose 3 riders to join in the X-Games withpout having to qualify, Robbie being one of those 3, Hibbert, also Steve Martin. Yuji was doing very well in quilifying for the x-games invitational today, coming in 2nd, 3rd, and 2nd in his heats, but did not make it in the final. Other than that I am very happy with what I saw, I think they do definatly have a good chance in winning races and can't wait till Canterbury comes, cause I'll be there all three days!

I watched every lap that Yamaha was in. Yuji is absolutely terrible and should be racing semi-pro. Robbie seemed like he wasn't very aggresive until the LCQ which he would have made the final but got passed by Crapo on the last turn of the last lap. The sleds don't sound real good. Yuji sounded better and Malanowski's sounded like it was running on one cylinder. The sleds are not good in the rough stuff. They have awesome hole shots...pull harder than any two-stroke out there but usually got passed by the time they got to the top of the hill. Yuji had everyone beat out of the hole in one heat and by the time he made the first turn he was in dead last. Robbie's hole shots weren't as good but there is a lot of luck involved in that also. Coming across the finish line Robbie took a lot of different lines but when he wanted it to fly he could make it fly. I don't think those sleds are any heavier than the two-strokes. They have a TON of work to do BUT they definitely are on the right track and it won't take long before Robbie starts running up front. Yuji is a lost cause and I don't see him ever being competitive. I think it would be interesting to see how Yamaha does on a larger track (like the X-Games) It just seemed like they were in a 30ft drag race but needed 40 to make it happen. Polaris was the class of the field this weekend. I think Blair Morgan and Tucker Hibbert finished last and second to last in the Pro Open final. Levi Lavalle is the real deal, he's gonna win a ton of races this year. Just my thoughts some see it differently but all in all I was expecting better results but it's real early and they have the coin and resources to become dominant...it's just a matter of time :flag:

Up the hill would have been a long way - more than 40'?

I just used those figures as a reference...What I meant by that is it seemed by the time they came out of a corner and hit the first mogul/jump they didn't have enough time to get the sled up to speed before they hit it (in comparison to the two-strokes). This was especially the case on the bottom side of the track or what I would call turn 2 before they started uphill again. I think a flatter more stretched out track would have produced better results ;)!

I'd have to agree with you about LaValle. The guy has great skill; it's just his ragged edge riding style that he needs to control. If he isn't in first it's usually because he has crashed himself due to lack of concentration.

BTW here were my picks for podium placment. I was off a bit on the 4strokes, BD Morgan and Hibbert but two of my podium picks were very close.
