I quit reading Snowgoer when they started naming the Snowmobile of the Year in August based on a prototype. Most of their comments are based on a 1 or 2 day test session in which they have to ride 4 to 5 sleds from all 4 manufacturer's. Not my idea of a full evaluation of a sled. Don't ever base your decision on what sled to buy by any magazine's writers. The only person who knows what works well for you and your tastes is YOU!! I know it sucks because you throw down big money for a sled you never get to ride first but that's the way this industry works.

Was thinking the same lol,

I just got my issue and was perplexed about the same thing. If you do a little scoring on all the sleds they graded.......F=0 pts.....D- = 1......D=2, D+ =3...etc. The Phazer ties for second to last in their scoring. WTF!!! I was thinking the same thing.."SLED OF THE YEAR" and it gets beat by such sleds as the XC 500 has been Polaris???? What the heck are these guys smoking? You got to remember one thing. Ehlert Publishing who owns Snow Blower is right here in my back yard...Minnesota. They just can't help but fall all over the Poo's and Cat's. Maybe Polaris paid them off to give their XC500 the second best score behind the Doo (#1 in sales) to help Polaris get rid of the bundles of leftover stock they are sitting on. POLARIS on the way out!!! I got the magazine free and they sent an URGENT bill to go with it. AHHH no thanks. Tim Erickson is the editor, he's just a kid IMO. The only good thing about this issue was Al Ulmer riding the APEX to his wedding reception!!! Way to go AL!!

I wonder if Tim Erickson from Snowgoer is related to Mike Erickson Head of Polaris snowmobile division? Brother? First or second cousin?

The wierdest thing is that in some ways they give the Polaris XC better scores... I couldn't stand to ride another traditional seated sled like that.
It is very odd, makes you wonder. First Sled of the year. media footage that's like a hallmark card for all the good things they said and then they trash it. And engine vibration? Even on the proto's I didn't hear anyone say that. Does make you wonder...
