Looking to take a short little trip because of the itch i have for riding and have been hearing Northern MN has been getting snow. Does anybody know if there is enough to ride there or where at? Thanks in advance!
I would also like to know. Any TYers from the Hibbing or surrounding area? Any trail info or recommendations would be great.

I'm in Grand Rapids, 33 miles west of Hibbing.
There is currently 4 to 6 inches of snow on the ground around Grand Rapids. North of the Laurentian Divide there is 8 to10 inches on the ground. The Marcell area has almost 1 foot on the ground. The DNR opened the gates on the trail system on Wed 12/1 but very few trails have been packed or groomed yet. Ice on the lakes and swamps is dangerously thin and in many places there is still open water. I've been considering checking out the western side of the Taconite Trail to the Clearwater Trail this Saturday but I am not expecting the trails to be very good yet.

Plenty of snow In the Eveleth Area, NO groomers yet as the trails do not OFFICIALLY open until December 15th. As Chasedan said, NO lake is safe right now and swampy sections of trail are pretty bad.

I took a short run from the itasca Fairgrounds Trailhead to the Clearwater Tail Shelter (about 15 mi one way). There has been no grooming but the trail is in suprisingly good shape. There are many rough spots and you have to snirt (snow + mud =snirt) across the cedar swamps but the trail was completely snow covered.
About 12 miles up the trail from the trail head there are two large trees across the trail. Watch out for that. They could ruin your day.

Trails not open in my neck of the woods yet, but I've heard that up by Cook they've got substantially more snow than the rest of us "up north". Might be enough to be fun, but yeah, since the water isn't that frozen up yet its a bit dicey

i live in hibbing, have not been out yet but my friends and son have been out and there is plenty of snow to ride - grooming is a little iffy yet with the swamps, but we have lots of snow - probably getting more this weekend. most snow i've seen in years.tlrguy said:I would also like to know. I ran the Taconite Trail again from Grand Rapids to the Clearwater Shelter yesterday 12/11. The trail is packing down. There were no bare spots but more snow is needed. The deadfall has been removed from the trail from Grand Rapids to the Clearwater Shelter. No sign of grooming yet. The big storm that dumped on the Twin Cities area missed us completely.
