Snow proofing starter relay

I know this has been an issue with others here. First time for me this morning, I went to turn over and the starter just clicked. The battery is good. I pulled the airbox off and put the blow comb to the relay next to the battery and two minutes later it fired right up. Now, I would like to fix this but am wondering if I could put silcone on the top where the terminal go or if I should pump each chamber full of dielectric grease. Does Yamaha have a cover for this relay? Any thoughts?

This has happened to me twice also when I get a little snow in there one day and it sits outside on a really cold night. Would also be very interested in a fix. I generally keep them in a warm garage so not a huge issue but there are those times

Ah, a warm garage...now that would be nice! I think I may try some silcone on top of the leads into the switch. I have no idea what causes the failure but I suspect moisture is the culprit. I guess it may be a just try it and see what happens.

Carry a jumper wire so that you can start it and when its started the engine heat will dethaw it...

That won't work if the starter relay is frozen like mine was. The starter will not turn over no matter how much juice is being fed to the battery...silicone is the answer to minimize this issue.

Guess I shouldve made myself a lil clearer. It will so if you bypass the relay cause I have done it before. The two terminals on the top of the starter relay just join them together til it starts. I am not talking about boosting the battery. Thats why I said jumper WIRE and not booster cables.
