SNOWIES

well we changed our minds and decided to go with SNOWIES it is about 6 hours closer for us to drive

Snowymountain Lodge is closed - was closed all of last year too.

For lodging and full service on the mountain (no trailering) look at Albany Lodge on the East side and Medicine Bow Lodge on the west side. Mountain Meadow is on the east side, but is not full service. Check out Winter Creek Condos and the Old Corral in Centennial - short trailer up the hill each day, but not too bad.

I guided up there for two years in college, and this will be my 24th season of riding up there - so I know the area really well - let me know when you are heading out and I can get you snow conditions and places to avoid.

Also had Mountain Meadow Cabins recommended. familiar with those? I heard the Lodge was going to be reopening. Pipe dream?

Don't count on the lodge for anything, and certainly do not send a deposit to anyone.

Mountain Meadow Cabins are just that - cabins - you have to tow in all your food etc. so be prepared for that.

I am partial to Albany - yes there is more trail riding down there, but if the weather sucks it is the place to be (down in the trees). We have a cabin about 12 miles up the trail so that is where we usually park and ride out of.

Based on your earlier posts about taking it easy and getting used to riding the mountains - I would really look into staying in Albany either at the lodge or at Albany Cabins. On your last day - ride up to the hill climbs or whatever you want to do for the really steep stuff.

Just my opinion though - everyone has thier favorite spots and paths....

Let me know if I can answer any other questions

Albany is a nice place and convient.I have stayed there before. We usually stay in larmie about 30 mins away you can get rooms from 35.00(Motel6) on up.It's only about 30 min drive. You can still drive the road ends right at the yami rentals so it really wouldn't be an innconvience.I plan on going out there a few times this year.
Just stay away from Hells canyon, lolIt's restricted from riding.I spend 36hrs in a canyon once.

Pro you should come out with us. Were you planning a March trip? Would love to have someone familiar with the area!

As of right now can't set any date's.If there is room then I would likely go or go with a few other people and ride with you.

I will be watching this trip. Snowies sounds better then Cooke, less driving the better, I have a open 4 place but a enclosed would be ideal. As the season gets under way I will know more about being able to go and if any other people may want to join in. Buy a Sno-Bungie!!!! ;)! And a good shovel/probe/back pack. If you guys are looking to take a AVY class contact engleharts, they have Mike Duffy do the class and he is the man when it comes to snowmobile specific classes, if you guys go to that one we can chat about this trip. You have my attention! And yes it would be nice to have a experienced person come along!

i have a Sno_Bungie and have a shovel probe and saw all in a back pack so we dont have to worry about that
