So the idea started to build a boondocking sled for my trips to the UP. I have always had a thing for the RX1's so I figured after about 100lbs diet :exc: and some other mods I figured this wll be fun.

Here is what she looked like when she came home :yam:

03RX1pics1006.jpg

Now for the tear down, out comes the suspension and exhaust. DAMMMM that stock exhaust is heavy. Gotta do something about that.
On to the MPI Cross Country kit. This will set the rear skid back and drop the rear of the suspension. The idea here is to reduce the aproach angle to help reduce trenching. The kit cosme with Tunnel extension, Rail extensions, new center and rear drop brackets and bumper.
Here is the template that came with the kit

03RX1pics5001.jpg

New relocated center bracket. You can see where the old mount was.
03RX1pics4007.jpg

New rear drop bracket
03RX1pics4006.jpg

I reused the original front mount. Once again you can see the old holes
03RX1pics4008.jpg

SOOOOOOO, since I was drilling out rivits and cutting holes now was the time for the Snow Eliminators. Got em from Rich Motorsports. Thanks Rich :-o
The stock RX1 boards have very poor grip. Was not gonna work in the pow. Theses will help. Once my U tube tunnel cooler gets here i can get rid of the stock running board coolers and punch out the holes
03RX1pics4005.jpg

Remember the heavy stock exhaust. :exc: Its GONE. It gets the tunnel dump exhaust. Kina cute I think.
Note: 4" glasspack to big, had to order another glasspack this ones only 3". That should be good

03RX1pics1016-1.jpg

Well once the new exhaust gets here I will get it in, then its time to make some exhaust mounts :)
03RX1pics1014.jpg

Remove some more stuff and onto the tunnel extension. Slapped the rear skid back in. For now I am going with the proaction. I would like to get a timbersled rear skid WAY LIGHT!!!
2" track and 8 tooth extros are in. Rear skid is in, now to add the extensions. Ya can't see em in this pic but there are some nice Fabcraft 8" wheels in there. Along with an offset axle.
Bruce at CB preformance came through big doing some extra mill work on my extensions so the axles would fit. THANKS BRUCE YOU ROCK :-o
03RX1pics6002.jpg

Another shot of the extension. Not so big looking
03RX1pics6003.jpg

While the skid was out and chain case apart it was time to repack the bearings, Now the dealer said he went through the whole rear skid and said it was trail ready. NOT. all the bearings were dry. The Rear axle was going into the garbage anyway, but the 3 wheels were trashed. What a JOKE
03RX1pics4010.jpg

To speed things up this is the type of greese gun I use to pack bearings. Same thing used to greese chainsaw bar tips
03RX1pics4011.jpg

On to the front for now. I picked up a lightly used filter kit. Bummer it came with srings and jets for 8000'. Oh well back over to CB to get some springs mains 165's and pilots 22.5's. Bruce comes through again
03RX1pics1011.jpg

While I was in there it was time to clean the carbs. Remember that the dealer told me this sled was ready for the trail. Carbs were cleaned. MY #*$&@!!!! You can see the varnish on the jets and dried goo on the float
03RX1pics5003.jpg

For those that do not belive that bacteria can and lives in gas. Here ya go. The brown stuff is the dried bacteria. The bowls have been off for a few days now so it dried out. Blow it out and spray some carb cleaner and wipe the residue out. Clean Clean Clean

03RX1pics5002.jpg

Carbs filters, and prefilters are on!
03RX1pics1012.jpg

Seeing as I want this sled for boonin thats standin time gotta raise the bars.
I was thinking of doing the rideforward mod, but thought I would try out this riser instead. Its an 8" Ole's machine riser. The neat thing is it has a 30deg slant cut on the bottom of the riser. This brings the bars forward. Makes em straight up and down. I had to change cables. Thanks to Kevin at Port I got the righht cables the first time.
THANKS KEVIN
03RX1pics6005.jpg

Here is a bettr pic of the riser. I am also using the bars from my 06 Attak. I just like-em. Also added a gold finger L-hand throttle, time to add my Yamaha Mountain strap.
03RX1pics6006.jpg

So far things are comming along quiet well. I have lots of stuff to do before the Jan Muni ride. Some clutching, prob swap some gears. I am not sure what I will need for that but a ride tonite will tell.
So I also have to trim the Fuel Tank cowl for my Apex seat that I got from Tom(Mr. Sled) Thanks Tom :), With the seat I will have to finsh my rear seat mount. No muffler back there anymore. Cover up the whole in the tunnel once again no muff back there. Rear bumper. Gauges, OH best of all The Barkbuster Front end. And some other stuff.
I'll be updating when I get some time do get the pics out of the camera.

Ian ya happy now????

The muffler came from Summit racing. The new 3" muffler is comming from an Ebay seller.

So the Riser is not tall enough????

Looking Awesome dude!

My testing this weekend went well!
VERY happy!

While you are at it, why not tip up the back rail extensions a bit?
It is easy right now.
Makes a major difference on the trail!
Wish I had tipped mine up a few more degrees yet (they are 6 degrees now), and may still!

Can't wait for Muni!

Watching Superman carve in powder this weekend, think the tall riser was a great idea on your part, gives you lots of leverage.

You doing a left finger pull throttle?
That helped alot on my ZR, along with the powder handle.

Looks great!

Not too sure many of us could afford to have the dealer go through our sleds the way we do ourselves... lol

Pretty sad they claimed to have...

Finally!!!! I've been waiting to see this monster! it looks great so far! tthe funny thing is I can totally here you talking as I am reading! lol..... you are very good at expressing your verbal tones/expressions through a keyboard! LMAO!!!
I even noticed you already had to polish the tunnel! :-o ;)! ;)! ;)!

Thanks Mark,
I bet you can here me saying vrooom vroooooom vrooooooooom sounds as I am standing on it.

Hey what happened to operation PINK???

Hey Rock, Yes there is a Left hand throt. Gotta love-em.

Gotta get some more pics she is about ready for the test ride. We have some killer drifts. 6'-7' deep :jump: :jump:

How did you get the wiring to work with the bars that tall?

Looks awesome, keep a scale handy and keep track of how much weight you lose! You can swap all the steel mounts and crap for aluminum to save a couple more pounds.

Looks AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Kinger,

As for the wiring. Lots of spicing to lengthen the wires. It will give it a cleaner look. All the wires will run through flex loom.

Sledhead. YUP started the polising already. I gotta do something while waiting for parts.

Gauges and a few other goodies came on today. Not sure if I will get them on before the Holidays

Ok well the snow is gone here :( BUTTTTTT, I got some test riding in last night.

Had a massive bog mid throt. dam near threw me over the windy #$%&* . Good thing the bars are so tall, stops you from going over them :)

Raised the needle a clip and opened the air screws 1 turn.

Will have pics later

Hmmmm...
Heck leave that bog in there, that way you get to hear us all pass ya!

:tg:

Looking good Scott!
Let us know how the carb adjustments work! ;)!

More progress and no pics. #$%&*

I think I have the carbs where I want them. Now the snow is gone. COME ONNNNN SNOW GODS

Since I can't ride it, I lengthened all the wires going up to the controls. Now oall the connectors under the cowl.

I trimmed the tank cowl to fit the apex seat. Thanks again tom :)

I will try and get some pics. She is starting to look like a sled again :jump:

Finally got some pics to update,
The new exhaust is in. The new glasspack is a 3" body and 19" overall length. This gives me more room for track clearance and moves the tail pipe back. Just need to finish the mount and thats done.

03RX1pics7006.jpg

Tunnel extension is all done but the polishing, Bumper is on, so is the nice and BLUE snow Flap. Once again thanks to Port I got the right parts.

Its starting to look like a sled again

03RX1pics7005.jpg

A nice shot of the offset axle and Fabcraft 8" wheels. The rail extension is place and bolted in.
Once again thanks to Bruce at CB Preformance for the mill work on the extensions. They were not made to fit the offset axle. Nice to have the tensioners on the outside of the rails. At the left of the pic you will notice the missing transfer rods. I went with MPI's transfer enhancemet kit. This thing transfer like my Mono does.

WHAT A GASSSSS

03RX1pics8002.jpg

Tank cowl got its trimming and finished it up with some door molding from the auto parts store. looks nice :-o
03RX1pics7001.jpg

A final shot of the controls. All the cables I got from Kevin at Port were perfect. Lots of room for my 8" extension. The cables follow the factory route so they are all tucked nice. All the wire have been extended so the connectors are all under the cowl.
the bars are from my 06 Attak and they throw off way more heat than the Attak.
Also added the weightless p-brake from MPI. Really nice people to work with
03RX1pics7003.jpg

Speaking of nice people, Mark aka SLEDHEAD He donated the Amsoil for last years TY give away ride. So in it goes
03RX1pics7009.jpg

AHHHHHH the BARKBUSTER front end Gotta love Timbersled stuff. I am just starting the install here. When thats done hopefully the rest of my Alum gets here for the seat mount.
