This is the back side when it explodes...
Front side looked ok on the second muffler.
First muffler blew the front side and broke the side panel tab right off.
Really hope 2020 brings a lot of this clown #*$&@ to a end so I can revive my faith in a reliable Yamaha 4stroke for the long haul like i thought in 2015.

The dealer called today, they said they called Yamaha and they told them to give me a new muffler. Doesn't really clear anything up as to why but on the bright side my first warranty claim pretty much paid for the 4 year YES plan which I was really hesitant to buy, not that I couldn't have bought a used muffler for probably $100 but it still makes me feel better about it.
Glad to hear they covered it. Thats great!
Thats exactly how i felt after my first muffler replacement. Warranty cost and muffler cost were almost equal so i felt it worked out well. Then i warrantied a reverse actuator, then a swaybar, now its going in for another muffler and a belly pan because the muffler burnt through it.
I have bought the yes warranty twice and it has paid for itself both times.
Anyone know what rivets work well and are stock appearing on the heat shields? I've got a stock modified muffler we ran this year that seemed really hot on the last ride and some more popping than usual getting of the gas. Just want to open it up and make sure nothing's starting to come apart or leaking under the shields.

You can buy the stock replacement rivets through any yamaha dealer they are like 90 cents each i dont know the part number off hand but saw them when i was purchasing parts earlier today.
How do you like the stock modified muffler?
Because of the new maine exhaust laws I have been running the stock muffler but it is killing me with my reflash, header, intake mods.
I noticed after my muffler blew i had a massive puwer increase. It was lifting the skis at 30-40 mph, which is something it has never ever done before.
I just picked up a muffler today and plan to gut it since wardens are no longer doing decible testing around us, they just look for the factory exhaust so i figure stock mod is the safest way to go.

Unless Yamaha was to make some grand gesture to stand behind all sleds (warrant/no warranty), I can not see another Yamaha in my future. This feels like my 1980 GM X body car. GM hopefully learned from that old attitude towards us consumers. How long did it take that brand to recover? Didn't it help all other brands of autos become appealing to consumers?
I have voted with my $'s and ordered a sled from another manufacture... Hopefully this one will provide as many trouble free miles as my back up sled (which continued to be my go to sled because the Viper)....

Good to know. I didn't look at the diagrams but assumed they didn't list heat shield rivets. I'll look.
I went with the modded muffler for the reason you mentioned. Had been running aftermarket for years but got a ticket. No complaints with it so far. It's on my wife's sled. I usually ride it myself quite a bit put less seat time on it this year than in the past. It dropped rpm some so obviously it's not putting out the same power as before but I would think more than stock but less than the Sandale muffler we were running. I might throw on the stock can again for comparison since I only ran a few hundred miles with the stock exhaust when new.

Did you mod it yourself? If so, do you have any pics.
Im sure once i cut mine open i can figure it out, but any thing that helps is welcomed!
I sent it out to Excell and they did it. Recommend to me by Ulmer since he was too busy to do one for me. I can get some pics once I pull the heat shields and get a better look for leaks hopefully next week or so.
