My exaust tips are black with soot and it runs down the silver outer rim staining it , practically after every trip.

Does this indicate too rich?? I have stock jetting completely but do have the green holtzman springs. I ride at sea level.

Could these springs cause this?? Anyone else have this happen?

Not necessarily. Most of it comes out at warmup and idle. Once warmed up and running you won't leave the black stuff.

Yooper , can you post a pic of your exhaust extensions ?
Where did you get them or did you make them .
I hate the black shi! on the tips, I was going to paint mine black
Ger

If they turn a tan color, you are too lean. If they turn black you are just right. If they turn black and drip black all over your tunnel extension then don't ride in the rain. :p

No...its normal.

Are you using premium octane fuel? Try using a tank of regular 87 octane. Burns much cleaner. No need for the extra octane, unless you're using different cams or a turbo.

Where do you guys get the idea black is normal? Tan is the color of a normal burning 4 stroke. If it's black you're too rich or burning oil, and neither of those is normal.

You CANNOT determine how an engine is running from the exhaust tips!

Mine are also black but my plugs are a perfect toasty brown and my sled runs like a champ!
