Has anyone installed the Sportech handguards. I've read that other guards hit the windshield when turning bars fully. The Sportech look smaller and was wondering if they hit the shield as well.

I have the Powermadd and yes they do hit the shield on the GT but not enough that it is a problem. I have hit it several times and have not seen any effect. Not sure what happens on a std shield.
No problem on Attak just touches but don't cause any problem.

my powermadd ones took out my head light assembly on me when I crashed.. Wacked hard enought to break the mounting bolt area right off.. Sucked to the tune of $222..

Wouldn't any hand guards contribute to the damage in a crash? You make it sound like if you would have had a different brand that it would not have happened. Btw Why are you crashing your new sled already?

This is text from a post i put up 3 weeks ago and have had 0 replies
i installed the sport tech hand guards to my apex gt with a few modifacations.
apon 1st look it would appear they WOULD NOT FIT
i had to cut all cable ties to the electronic controls on the handle bars and remove the support tabs to allow the mounting blocks to get enough flat on the bars to position correctly.
addionally i removed the inboard end plates to these controls and opened up the outlet holes to provide proper clearance for the wires
after the install i found that the bottom of the guards hit the wind screen when the bars are at max turn position, this is minimal after adjustment
but i wonder if i go to a taller windshield if i will have a problem
they do look good !

I bought the sportech hand gaurds, they DO NOT fit well on the apex. I tried everything to get them to work and they just hit the windshield. I then purchased a set of Powermadd's and they work much better.
The problem i had with the sportechs is they are oversized. Also the brackets are a problem. They don't fit the curved bars very well. I recommend against them for the Apex.
now i am sitting with a $50 pair of sportechs that i can't even use.

I bought the Powermadds and they are fine. I didn't have to cut any cable ties or anything related to the wiring on the handlebars. And they do not hit at all when I am at full turn.

There is plenty of adjustment available with the Powermadd hand guards. I adjusted mine for max wind protection and with that they do touch the low shield but its no biggie.

A little touching of the stock shield is worth alot of protection from the wind. The PowerMadd guards fit great and look good to boot. I just hope I dont tear off the neat little mirrors they offer. An infinite amount of adjustability is a plus!
