Yamaha's new sled requirements for the "POWER MONGERS&a

Bottom line here is Yamaha needs to step to the plate soon and bring it all. This post is about ideas on how Yamaha can improve on what they have now. They have a great product but many items can be, and should be addressed at the factory level. I don't bleed blue, green or yellow. Keep the requests coming. Maybe Yamaha is watching? Maybe Yamaha will listen?

...ABSOLUTELY MIKE ;)!

We know they are watching and reading these post, now if they actually have enough influence to make these things happen ...we shall see.

Unfortunately I'm one of those that bleeds Yamaha Blue, Red, Black & White so I'm not helping the cause. There are probably many more out there like me and I SURE HOPE YAMAHA ISN'T COUNTING JUST ON THAT.

I'm not satisfied with a few things either.......Ski's could be better as more aggressive W/Power Steering , Hand Warmers that work like back on the 04 Warrior, a better Skid more like Doo's, More HP as 180-190hp would be nice, bring back more Retro Colors from the past as the 08 apex 40th Annv was Super Hott & a Respectable Price....as we get it up the CDN South End.

Overall for me I was very happy with my 08 LTX GT, was it perfect...No: Nor did I expect it to be or ever be as we will always push more more as consumers. I would love to see Yamaha do something OVER THE TOP, as they are certainly capable of it.

No Matter what you guys buy, I wish you all a safe and fun filled winter next season.....as we are ALL SNOWMOBILER'S AT HEART :flag:

Like he said...........Perfect NO, nice yes, only choice NO, my preference at this time YES

Good post Knapp

I agree the apex is heavy.. but why do you keep saying the nytro needs too loose weight.. That sled is super light for a 4 stroke..

They also sell after market skis.. so you can fix that for yamaha.. I have doo skis on my apex.. and love them..

I have Doo pilot skis on both my Apex and the wifes Nytro and they make a huge improvement to both sleds. The Nytro is light compared to the Apex but don't fool yourself thinking the Nytro is only a few lbs more than the 1200. Unless you think 40 + lbs is "only a few lbs"

Just a question here and probably off topic...but the doo 1200 is rated at 10-15lbs lighter than the Nytro...that's dry..but the Doo has a larger gas tank so when they're wet wouldn't the Doo weigh that same or more?
Ya I'm not sure where JDS gets 40+ lbs when you look that the specs of the XTX and the 1200 Gade and it's only a 20lbs differnce in dry weight. The gade has 10.5 gallon tank. When you fill them both up, who is going to be heavier..

I don't go by any manufacturers dry weight ratings. Yamaha is way off with thier ratings. My 06 Apex was listed at 541 lbs and the real dry weight was closer to 585 lbs. My 1200 X pkg was rated at 509 by Doo and one of the mags weighed it at 500 lbs. My Wife's Nytro was rated at 521 but every real weight I have seen on the Nytro shorty is between 540-545 lbs dry.

Ya that's it... DOO over weighed it? Keep telling yourself that one.. Go back to DOO-TALK.

He's right, 1200 weighed less than doo claimed by about 8 lbs if I remember correctly. The Yamaha's all weighed around 35-40 lbs. more than claimed. right out of one of the mags, don't ask me which one though. I like jds1000 input. He is honest and calls it like it is. If we could ever get Benji back here he'd tell you how much he likes his Doo also. Same as Ted Jannetty will tell you, the Doo is the finest machine he's ever ridden. Yamaha had best notice these things and start putting the miles on the Yellow equipment and taking notes if they want to stay completive. We need some different equipment fast! Bountyhunter, I'm a bit biased towards blue too, I just don't like to rule out any of the others.

Nice thing about the new tin foil doos when you are done with them you can crush them like a pop can. Ya they keep the weight off but durability is out the window.
Some of the stuff you all would like to see Yamaha do, would drive the sled in to the $20000.00 mark let’s see how long Yam is around as a sled mfg.
As for me Yamaha is the best sled I have been on. As far as not fast enough, I think the apex sled is way too fast for the average Joe. Speeds on the trails are getting out of hand so says the State of Wisconsin so we will have a day and night time speed Limit on our trails soon. We already have the night time speed limit 55MPH.

Badger

Our speed limit up here in Ontario is 50 ... km/hr!

Thanks Mike for the kind words but I have found that these brand specific forums don't like hearing non biased truths. I got banned from DooTalk last year because I pointed out many times that Doo needed to come out with a reliable 4 stroke engine like Yamaha because thier 2 stroke engines sucked. Even though I said that Doo had the best of everything else I was told to go back to Totallyamaha and take my heavy 4 stroke turd with me. Now they are all going Ga Ga over the new 1200 and act like a performance 4 stroke snowmobile was BRP's idea! I don't bleed yellow or blue and have never been brand loyal. I have owned many Cats, a few Polaris's and now 2 Doo's and 2 Yamahas. When a sled gets my attention I try it out and if I like it I buy it. I don't need any mags or salesman to tell me what is good or bad I'll make that determination on my own. Right now I think I'm making enemies on TY and I'm sure they are ready to give me the boot just like DooTalk did so I think I will stop posting my opinions. :yam:

Bottom line here is Yamaha needs to step to the plate soon and bring it all. Ski-Doo is looking good with the 1200. It will be my next new purchase if the HP doesn't go up and nothing changes for either mfgr. I'm hoping Yamaha does something before Ski-Doo ups the ante with the 1200. There is no doubt in my mind both companies are working at adding power to the four strokes. The problem here lies in the fact Yamaha tends to be to conservative rather than aggressive. I want a machine that is all there as a package. Even though the Cat was heavier it flew through the air like a sno-cross sled, it landed perfect every time it went airborne, it cranked thru the corners far better than my Yamaha. I got rid of it however due to its lack of straightline performance, poor build quality and reliability. Yamaha should be able to match the good qualities of the other brands and this would be the machine I'm looking for. It doesn't have to be the lightest on paper, I couldn't care less about that. This post is about ideas on how Yamaha can improve on what they have now. They have a great product but many items can be, and should be addressed at the factory level. I have been waiting for people to add things like "we could also use a better placed dimmer switch within reach of your thumb," or "perhaps Yamaha could also go back to a hinged hood instead of all the removable panels" or even, "how about a 14" track for the trail sled user for increased speed, MPG, and lightened weight". Lets not try to bash each other because one guy switched to a Ski-Doo or a Cat. Thats insane! This is how we share ideas. Believe it or not, some of the other companies actually have better equipment or features that are far and away superior the what we have now. That is the reason I started this post. To make Yamaha aware of the shortcomings we have compared to the other OEM's. I don't bleed blue, green or yellow. I prefer the Yamaha for the moment but would switch to another brand if it offered the features I was looking for in a machine in a heartbeat. Let's try to keep this directed towards ways Yamaha might improve their product for our enjoyment of the sport. Maybe, just maybe we'll see if they really do listen as long as we keep somewhat reasonable in out requests. Thanks to all those that have offered reasonable and constructive ideas. Keep the requests coming. Maybe Yamaha is watching? Maybe Yamaha will listen?

In additional to everything already mentioned, how about introducing an electronically adjustable weight transfer rod? I would find that even more useful than the electronically adjustable rear shock.

It may be 8lbs less than what BRP originally said but who rides their sled dry...I don't understand why manufacturers give a dry weight...it should be weighed trail ready..all fluids full...which makes the 1200 heavier.

An honest opinion is valued JDS, but saying the Nytro is heavier than the 1200 simply isn't true.

Knapp, I agree about not ruling anything out. I'm not biased towards Blue at all. After 25 years being from the DOO camp, I would not mind going back to try there new 1200 out, but the motor needs to improve before I go there. The responsiveness will need to improve and the hp will need to be closer to at least 150+ and that will help make me swing back. I just don't think jds has anything good to say about the Nytro, because his comments come off like you did with your Cat Turbo. I read alot of your posts on HCS and read what you thought of it.. What did you do with the Turbo? That's all I'm saying... if you don't like it that much and you have nothing that is informative, except to complain about the sled, then sell it and move on. But the negativity that he brings does not help much on the informative side of these posts.

Unless the weight came from Snotech, then I don't put much into the weight coming from other mags..

On another note, I would not want to go back to DOO-TALK... Lots of bickering/BS over on that site.

and limiter straps...

The Apex is just fine sure it needed refinement over the years but so does everything else.A lot of people are brand jumpers and Yamaha can't and won't rely on comments from people who do so.Most of the snowmobiles don't need anything but people to be satisfied with what we have.Yes there is always room for improvement but that doesn't come overnight.

P.S. power steering on a snowmobile would be a joke and is for all you ladies out there.Totally uncalled for.

Oh pulleeazz...... This may carry a shred of truth if Yammi thought for sure their performance shouldn't be held up to the competitions.... Why in the name of God shouldn't it? Are Yammi's less expensive?

As far as improvements coming overnight, how many years should it take, exactly?

Talk about blind brand loyalty..... see where that gets you in the end.

If Yamaha is so poor and every other sled is that much better why aren't you on another brand? :yam: As far as brand loyalty I enjoy Yamaha's because they do everything just right, unlike some brands that only do a few things right,it's always gotten me to where I needed to go and back with zero issue's a big plus when you are riding alone.
