I am running a 2012 supercharged apex xtx Simmons gen 3 skis and ohlins shocks on the front end
I did the star suspension upgrades.
I also had star suspension recal shocks. and Installed a heaver spring on the center shock.
Now for the ride report.
stutter bumps are gone you see them but do not feel them.
now on the big bumps it's a little bit fun to ride you can carry this skis over everything.
we were playing in about 20 inches of fresh snow. playing on ungroomed fire roads
You can turn it like never before in deep snow.it made my apex front end feel extremely light no ski pressure but it still turns perfectly.you don't feel the bumps in the handlebars.
now on the groomed trails it could be dangerous you find yourself riding faster than you should be because the Machine installs such good confidence.
My last Yamaha was a 2008 apex Ltx GT with a zx2 it also worked good .but the front end still felt heavy.not able to get the ski pressure this light.
On my 2003 rx1 I had the expert x and I loved it.that suspension would carry the weight of that heavy front end.you could adjust it easily for the snow conditions

Hey Powershot1, I also just installed the Star Suspension upgrade in my 2012 Apex XTX, with the heavier spring, and had Star redo my shocks. I have not had it out on the trails yet to test. Would you mind listing your preload settings for the ski shocks spring and rear center spring? It would be a huge help.
Thanks.
Thanks.

15 mm of threads left to top of spring on the center shock.you would think it crazy tight.
Front shock spring as loose as you can make them.keep in mind not to loose that you loose the spring retainer.
Rear springs set on soft.

Seems counter intuitive to have the ski shock springs that loose and the center shock spring that tight. But, I'll give those settings a try. BTW, what do you weigh dressed in snow gear? I am 230 dressed.

I also installed the star kit in my xtx. Where did you get the heavier center spring?

Thanks, I don't like having the stock spring cranked all the way tight. Stiffer spring seems the way to go.

Yamajohn if you look that is way tighter than Yamaha spec with the heavy spring.but it works.

It should get a heavier spring because the star kit removes the suspension coupling effect. Did star recommend that spring rate for your weight?

Yes. Robert from star suspension also had me weight the ski pressure using a spring scale.hooked to the end of the upper control arm. 155 lbs. if you sit an the tunnel ext weight drops to 120 lbs compressing the rear of the suspension.

Did star suggest having them revolve your shocks when adding this? I had my shocks revolved this summer and am wondering if they would work with the star suspension kit? After reading this post this is what I'm looking for
