Starter rotation direction?

Which way should a starter turn for one of these four stroke motors clockwise or counter clockwise?

I;m wondering if my starter is spinning backwards

interested in answer as well. ran into this problem on an atv awhile ago and changed the spagg gear for nothing chasing it.

when looking at the gear side of the starter it would need to spin counter clockwise. the sprag gear will only go one way so if starter is installed it will not spin the motor if trying to turn in reverse it will free wheel..
