Before the site crashed there was a thread about moving the wiring
on the steering column.

If memory serves me a wire rubbed though & left a few people stranded on the trail. :(

It was a pretty simple fix but I don't recall which wire was moved either
to the front or back of the column or if it has been fixed on the 04's.

any information would be appreciated. :P

p.s. I've used the search facility on this site & can't seem to locate that thred

You can easily see the wire if you look down the column. There is a group of wires that were rubbing up against the U channel and shorting out the system. Just move them back towards the seat, secure them and you should be fine. I will check mine again but I clearly remember this post as well.

While we are on the subject check the wiring harness UNDERNEATH the tool box. There is a thick bundle of wires that crosses through the frame and is succeptible to rubbing against the sharp edges of the frame. I just put hose protector around it to protect.

Wiring Harness

This happened to me last year. I will find my pictures and post them again for you to see. It involves the harness coming from the Key switch rubbing on the U brace and shorting. This blows a fuse and no power. Wasn't alot of fun.

Happened to me as well. Remove the bezel from the key switch and follow the tan/white wire down the column. Mine chafed through the wire coating just underneath the white connector. We removed the wire from the connector itself and slid a heat shrink tube over to fix. Get some plastic wire lomb shield and ziptie that puppy and/or reroute away from sharp edges.

Here are some pictures:

Try again Buckeye...this time use the "Add an Attachment" button and post your pics this way.

Broken Wires

It took me a while, but I finally got it.

Wiring short

Buckeye, thanks for the pictures.
Thanks also to Kmer & Rxwonder for the help.
I plan on tearing the machine's wiring apart to-morrow to
get 12 v (fused) from the battery to install GPS & wiring for heated visor
I'll certainly be checking to see if there are any possible wiring problems.
