steering slop ?

'04 Warrior with about 600 miles.
I have what I would consider a lot of steering slop. (ie.- bar movement without moving the skiis.) Probably about 3/8" to 1/2".
I traded my Polaris with nearly 8000 miles and it had virtually no slop.
Is this an RX1 thing (due to the numerous linkages to get around the engine) or is mine an exception?
Any ideas on how to tighten it up?
Thanks.

Mines the same as yours, been like that from day 1, my 02 Viper with 4,400 miles is tighter.

I would have to say my warrior has the same situation..I had it on a jack last weekend to change carbides on my simmons and noticed plenty of slop in the a arm bushing also..but I dont notice it much going down the trail..with simmons skis it barely twitches..644 miles so far

Has anyone had problem with handlebar slightly to the right when ski's are strait. Seems like the setting form the factory and friend of mine corrected. Needed special tool but is awsome now.

Ref. the handlebars set to the right from the factory, mine came that way. A good 3/4 to inch set to the right. At the 500 mile checkup/oil change the dealer adjusted them. It was a bugger to get at the locknut, they had to cut down a wrench to fit in the space.

I understand that they all came that way but most dealers didn't adjust them. There is some sort of bracket you drop inside the front end to adjust. After we adjusted its great.

You guys on this site amaze me :D Everything that I seemed to have problems with on my RX1, someone in here seems to have had the same problem at some point. You mention the steering, and mine is the same, you mention the instrument cluster fogging, mine is the same, steering slop, mine is the same, front end noise, mine too!!!! And the list goes on and on..

As a follow-up.......I was talking to the "yamaha guru" at the dealership where I bought it. He responded that all of the RX1's have the same slop and (as I suspected) it's due to the multiple linkages to get around the engine. Open the hood and look at how many joints there are.....sheesh!!!
So, I guess we live with it.

Well, sometimes, you have to look at the bright side to these things....

If you are ever asked one of the following questions....

Q. Why did you hit that tree?
Q. Why did you miss that corner?
Q. How did you manage to flip end-over-end like that?

You now have a perfect excuse..... :p :D

A. .....It's the damn slop in the steering... :?

LOL

Works for me...

deshkae, do you have a link for the Sno Tek linkage?

Took my warrior in for its 500 miler and told the dealer that it pulls to the the left when I hold the handle bars straight. Service mgr called after check up and said that it was probably because the trail sloped down to the right. Can you beleive that? Even if that were true, I would have had to turn the bars to the left to compensate. My problem is just the opposite. I'm going straight with the bars turned to the right on flat road.
He also said the the rattle I'm hearing in front of the gas tank was my key chain or ice down below...even when riding with no key chain and after letting sled side in heated garage over night.
My quest for a decent dealership in Northern WI continues....
