Still to warm

How about the thermostat? Sounds stupid I know because usually when they stick, they stick open and you have no heat. But if its stuck open, or closed it can't regulate the temperature of the engine like it should. Seeing that it will idle for 45 minutes without overheating makes me think thats your problem. Thermostat shouldn't be to expensive. It is possible you still have an air lock as well.

My next step was to check the thermostat. I put a new one in it but that doesn't mean it's any good. I see the service manuel call for the bleed valve to be placed in one spot. I don't remember if I paid attention to that when I put it in. I am going to put in a pan of boiling water and see if it opens.

This has got to be something mechanical. That thermostat must be faulty. You have gobs of cooling surfaces and seem to be running it in ideal snow conditions.
I think you said you already changed it, but perhaps it's faulty.
Good luck,
Ms

I pulled the thermostat and checked it in hot water. It starts opening by 160 and is wide open by 175. The manuel say it should start to open around 160 and be full open by 185. I find no blockages in my heat exchangers. It's down to a head gasket or the water pump. I put seals in the pump last fall and it looked good. I don't smell antifeeze in the exaust at any time. I hate to throw in the towel but I'm sendind it to a dealer today.

You won't necessarily smell antifreeze if it's the head gasket. Check the overflow tank for signs of oil. Ask me how I know...

No scum layer in the overflow tank. I kow what you are saying though. I have seen ot on heavy equipment I deal with. I would rather put a head gasket in a john deere that that nytro.

Ok, I have to things for you to check. One obvious and one not so obvious, casue I ran into this on my 2008. First are any of your coolant hoses kinked restricting flow? Hauck sent me a sled that had this happen. Second did you listen to hear if your radiator fan is running? I had one go out on me last year. With out it you will over heat after a few miles. The dealer down here has run into quite a few last year where the fan took a crap. Just a heads up

Thanks for your sugestions. I checked for pinched hoses. I blew through the front heat exchanger. I haven't blown through the brand new tunel heat exchanger. That may be restricted but thats hard to imagine. My fan does work I used the bloody finger method to check it. I have been thinking about this thing all day. I resealed the waterpump last fall and the impeller looked fine, but maybe I should take a second look.
