So, I noticed I had a stripped bolt hole when removing my lower right shroud to change oil. What are my options, or should I ask, what is my best option? I could Heli Coil, but never have use that before, and I read somewhere that you can either use Liquid Steel, or JB Weld, fill in the hole that is stripped, add some dish soap to the bolt, thread the bolt into the hole and let it dry. I wasn't sure if Liquid Steel or JB Weld can adhere to aluminum. Basically the hole that stripped is the one of the two bolts that holds that lower shroud in place, right under the oil tank. Thanks for the help.

mine is stripped in the same spot. Have you tried cleaning the threads up the the correct size tap. If that doesn't work you could drill it then tap in slightly larger. That is what I usually do on a non critical bolt like that.

I'm not sure if trying to clean the threads up will work since I can push the bolt in and out of the hole with ease. I thought about going bigger, but then don't I have to get a bigger bolt than the 10mm that's in there now? For ease, I like to keep the bolts all the same size instead of having that one odd sized bolt.

another way to repair it is to install an insert - you have to drill hole and either install a push through rubber one or there are also auminum inserts that are installed with a hand held gun - like a rivet gun- if you have a buddy in the automotive body buisness he could most likely help

Oh yeah if you can push it in and out they are really screwed or gone altogether I guess. Mine is more of a cross thread. But yeah if you tapped it larger it would mean a larger bolt.

I bought a 6mm x 1 Heli-Coil today. Boy... they don't give those things away.

Check your bolt. it could just be the threads on the bolt not the nut. This happened to me. All I had to do was replace the bolt.

Checked it already. Bolt is fine... threads in the right bulkhead where is fastens is stripped out.

the same thing happened to me when I was taking it apart to straighten and strengthen the subframe, the bold came out just fine, but it felt stripped when I went to put it back in.
Sounds like I need to find a helicoil for it.

Some of the specialty fastener stores sell a insert that uses a jam nut and bolt. Kind of like using a power steering pulley remover, vs having to use the special gun. I keep a asst of them in my tool box. Just takes two wrenches to install but work great.

I have the same issue. I put a nut on the backside. It takes alittle more to take apart but how often do you have to do that?
