Stub shaft bearing.

Adding this to my "if tuned address it" list. Mine has been fine and has 11k. Wife's with 4k did this yesterday. Not a cheap way to end the season.View attachment 160584 View attachment 160585[/QUO

I am likely stating the obvious, but I don’t know much about these clutches or the aftermarket weights. Weight went past roller looks like... bad roller or weight is to short for full shift?

tuned or not. Everyone is going to blow a belt sometime on these sidewinders and for the type of damage to occur is that not something Yamaha should be addressing by form of a recall to seat a new bearing in there with green locktite? Seeing that primary and secondary damage it's unbelievable that this is not considered to be a recall keeping safety in mind. It's great we have a site like this and are handy but surely everyone can agree the stub shaft is an issue and simple enough to correct but what's it going to take here? Aside from catching a weight in the shin is the whole primary going to have to rocket out of the machine before this is identified as being an issue? Everything about that primary and the shaft it is on should be thrown in the dumpster and why they strayed away from the Apex primary is beyond me. After all, when the Sidewinder came out most owners coming off Apex/Nytros first question was, "is it a Yamaha clutch?".

My thoughts are Yamaha is loving the revolving door parts sale after the machine is sold and it's something they are not used to with the Apex/Nytro but they are just toeing the line enough. IMO Just seems easy enough for everyone here including myself to address to resolve this yet not so for Yamaha to come to bat on? Not even going to talk about the rest of what's inside that primary either...
One blown belt did not cause all this, my opinion is lack of maintenance

Ouch!! Man must have blown a belt and it hit hard to push the shaft in that deep..
I've seen clutches rub the bolts but never seen them sheared... that's crazy!!!
I don't think it sheared it was probably rubbing for awhile I wish he would have taken a picture of the back side of the clutch. The thing of it is we will never know what happened but it don't take long to point the finger at Yamaha

After the weight flew out, how long did she drive it with it viberating real bad. I can see the unbalance clutch breaking the bolts off.
I have had clutches break before and the sled shakes violently when engine is running.

This has been questioned before about weights going past the rollers and mythbusted numerous times. The weight WILL NOT go past the roller if the roller is in good condition. The only way a weight will go past is if the roller bushing is not there, the whole roller assembly have been broken and/or the whole pin for the roller is gone. For these Sidewinder clutches which everyone has seen here, it is the Sidewinder clutch that the pocket will breakout through the allen screw holes because of the webbing that was removed from Yamaha to reduce weight of the heavy 4 stroke turbo Sidewinder.

This video was made over 2 years ago and has been mythbusted everytime. The problem is the Sidewinder primary clutch breaking out the weight pocket....but that is not the original cause here.

I have personally talked to @McKabe and the damage you see is from when the snub shaft bolts sheared off, the clutch came off and went into the secondary.

My bet is the clutch web broke and weight flew out then viberation broke the bolts.
If the primary was pushed in that far it would have had belt issues big time.
Better check the case for cracks with die pen.
Don't put a sidewinder primary clutch back on it.
Let see some pictures of the backside of the primary.

I agree with the weight issue Thunder but there is more to the story on some of these clutch failures I just think your only hearing half of the story I could be wrong but I Just can't believe that all that stuff happens when you blow a belt, I just feel there is way more to the story.

@McKabe already has us looking for a set of clutches and is not going back to a Sidewinder clutch

I wish I was on it to be able to tell you exactly what happened or if there was vibrations. We can sit and point fingers at whoever all damn day. All I can tell you is that it's broke and I don't question any of my maintainenece tactics or thunderproducts. Like I stated previously, I've had zero issues with my other machine that has way more miles. It broke a belt the day prior and then the day this happened it blew another. I think the first belt moved it enough to contact the bolts (I didn't run it personally to notice noise) then the next day when it blew the next belt it fucked it all up.
I'll run out to the trailer later and ask the secondary clutch who was the witness what happened to get the whole story.

Thunder any info on this new Cat clutch maybe it will be the savior for all these clutch failures

I am hoping so...

Maybe see if the secondary clutch has a video of it too.
