- 2017 Sidewinder RTX-SE
I have just replaced my Camoplast Ice Ripper track on my 2017 Sidewinder due to some of the lugs were tore right off the track. I was not all that happy anyway with the ice ripper since all of my prior sleds were studded.
My question to those of you running studs, how many are you putting in the track on a 129 inch RTX-SE with the 1.25 ripsaw track and what pattern has been working without tearouts? I have an aftermarket clutching, tune, and can on it to the tune of around 265 HP. I want to ensure that I have enough studs to not tear out and at the same time, not spend a fortune on extra studs that are not needed and just add extra track weight. This sled also has the quiet track with the raised surfaces on the inside where the idler wheels are located. Studboy also recommend that those be ground down flush when installing a stud in that area.
I am thinking about 180 Pro Series from Studboy. 1.375 length which will be 3/8 inch about the track lugs per studboy. Also thinking about the Super Pro lite series backers since a friend that used to race for Polaris said they worked awesome on their race sleds.
Any insights here would be awesome. I have also uploaded the layout that studboy is recommending for my sled. I want to make the right choices and thank you for your help ahead of time...Love my Sidewinder!!

How many miles do you ride a year on average? I've used this pattern on my last 2 turbos with good luck. Just my opinion, but I would consider going at least one size up from the 1.375's if not two if you want considerable traction. I used 1.52's on my 1100 turbo, and currently running 1.63's on my '17 998 turbo.I have just replaced my Camoplast Ice Ripper track on my 2017 Sidewinder due to some of the lugs were tore right off the track. I have an 18 RTX 129, with a 1.25 inch lug, and I put 180 1450” Megabites, aluminum washers, all singles 4 per row, inside and outside the rails. 1364 miles no issues..no pullouts, none bent. Very good traction and hook up. Sled is stock, but considering tuning it this year.
Gotta ride smart though...I go easy if I’m on less than desirable conditions in certain spots. Just Use common sense.

Lots of studding threads all sudden, If you read thru a few pages lots of info all over, and also search button works best.
I went with 2/4/2/4 pattern on my RTX, 1.450 seems to be great length with lots of penetration yet not too long, my GDs are doing ok with 1450 miles season one.
Never liked studding outers on my trail system, inner idlers chunked off due to quiet bumps, should set the studs in to avoid this. But not positive idlers would be perfect if when done that way, 23 bucks and two new idlers for me this yr.....
tons info in build thread, sig below.

I run about 2500-3000 miles per year on trails in northern WI and the UP of Michigan. Thanks for the information and help!

I ran 4-3-2 pattern on my 129 last season. 1.62 extreme max. It had decent hookup, but I seemed to have bent more studs than my turbo nytro used to bend. I am not sure if it was a bad batch of studs or what happened. Go at least 1 size up from the 1.375 studs. Penetration is key.

Same here Phil....Been studding pretty much entire life, and never bent a stud. GD's have been my stud of choice always. The 1.450'' was first time I have bent a couple. Im thinking its the big power tunes, along with longer studs then I used to run on my 1" tracks.I ran 4-3-2 pattern on my 129 last season. 1.62 extreme max. I have heard a few guys say the megabites are abit beefier for not bending....I never really was a fan of megabites, just seemed like too fat for good penetration, but in the end id like to have them hold up longer i guess.

Like what was said in another thread "studs are a wear item"...If you ride enough miles, and many of us have had marginal conditions the last few years, your gonna bend and even may break off studs. I want decent stud penetration and don't mind replacing a few studs every year.

So true....it was a marginal season for us and not like seasons of old....Like what was said in another thread "studs are a wear item"...If you ride enough miles, and many of us have had marginal conditions the last few years, your gonna bend and even may break off studs. Im also gonna replace a few bent ones too. I know with my 129 and 2/4/2/4 pattern I bought a 144/pack, so have about 9 spares.

The megabites are very durable compared to the extreme max studs. I don’t think you will be disappointed running megabites. They probably don’t penetrate as well as a gold digger, but the only thing that will get these sleds to hook on glare ice is freshly sharpened studs and at least 1 chisel per bar.

Do you feel like you get "push" in the corners studding outside? I studded outside on my 137" winder 2 years ago but bought a 129" at the end of last season. I've always studded outside but am thinking about inside only. agree......Buds winder with 30+ psi and just sharpened studs of 3 per bar, hooks major....sharpening for ice is the ticket. The megabites are very durable compared to the extreme max studs. For trail maybe the megabite is a overall best choice. Tad cheaper then the GD's too.

I didn’t find push in corners...but I have a lot of carbide up front too. And my riding area isn’t very tight for the most part(sure some tight areas), but more of the big wide open trails/RR Beds/Fields...real Winder country for sure. So maybe that makes a difference too, cuz this thing can be opened up and allowed to run like Gazelle for the most part, instead of being on and off the throttle constantly in tight trails??
