The oddd number of lugs made it a little harder to decide on a pattern, and I didn't want to chance having anything unbalanced. I thought long and hard about going with just 114 using double backers, but I bought enough studs to do 171, with a double and single in every lug.
I'll probaly install all the doubles first and see how that looks. I'd like to keep the track light, but I don't want to be under-studded either.
The thing you have to remember though, is that it's not quite fair to compare to a 121 stud pattern, because with teh same pattern the longer track will give you more studs on the ground at any given time, so in theory you should be able to use a lighter stud pattern then you would with a 121.
Of course I had to question the tipped up rails, and if those studs would be getting much bite, taking load of the rest of the studs. Maybe not, so I bought a bunch to be on the safe side.
I've had lots of tracks studded, and in general I've never found that having lots of them does much to keep them from ripping out. I had either 168 or 192 in my Dragon with the 121 track and destroyed it in 3600 miles. A few pull throughs, LOTS of bent studs and quite a few torn lugs.
Anyway, we shall see. I'll post pics eventually.

Good luck, I dont think I will have any unbalanced issues with mine....it's only two studs. You can't tell me that the the track it self isn't off balance some, just like a tire.
Nice Scratch pattern the Double backer pattern will only give you approx 1.5 inches per side of scratch which is like the one my dealer put on mine. That sucks!Daranello said:Fusion said:lucky_7 said:Is 108 enough? I always use '1 stud per horsepower' theory...which would be in the range of 135-138!!...which would put you in the 144 range.
Anybody that puts 108 studs in a 135+ HP sled is asking for trouble. It puts too much stress on the studs. You are asking for trouble with pull throughs or bending. This is like putting 96 studs on a 121" track, in a 800 two stroke. You have to go at least 144 (121" track) or so on a sled with this kind of power. At the very least, 120. JMO.
Sorry Buddy, 108 studs on my Firecat F7 (140hp) rode 5,500 miles I'm 250lbs and NEVER tore out a stud, bent 3 total....., I trust me I ride HARD!!!!
I'm going with 114 on the XTX, mostly cause too many studs add weight and KILL your top end!!!

My only question is if you're going to bother putting in that many, why bother with leaving the odd row empty. The pattern would've been more consistant if you went with 4 studs per row for 188 total.yox185 said:Pics dont show much
