In my area I find myself riding on Hard Packed and sometimes ice. I would like to stud my 1.7" track but I looked on the Woody's site and it seems that this track cannot be studded. Anyone know anything about this?

I wasn't sure about studding mine for the same reason but still need metal for the ice in the powerlines.
I ended up going with 1" Kold Kutter screws. They said with 1" of thread, they would never pull out. At 1" the paddles are still plenty flexible. I have a friend that rides with us that uses them and he got about 5000 miles before they started needing replacing. You can't beat the price.
From a couple feet away you can't tell they are in there.

Looks Great, but aren't you afraid they might tear out and end up through your Cooler. Did you have to pre-Drill the holes?

Stud Boy 1.875" is what I will use IF I stud mine. Right now the plan is to try it without.
Johnmaster is popular among the Doo guys and has a nice chart setup showing penetration depth.

TD Max, what pattern will you use? Is there is a Template for that ? I am thinking about 100 studs or so for trail riding.

The track is laid out for one pair per pitch. That's what I'd start with. Might not be enough so then I'd look to add a double to every other.
I have a good trusted friend that used to race years back. He still retains his dealer relationship with Stud Boy so I'll let him call the shots.

Well they said they couldn't tear out with that much thread engaged so I am not worried about that. I have torn and tossed plenty of studs so I figure that would be a wash. They are also really light the 141 I put in didn't even weigh a pound, so it is also adding a lot less weight than studs.
I am more concerned with how well they work and hold up, but like I said above I ride with a guy that uses shorter ones and they hold up great for him.
I did pre-drill all the holes, they say you don't have to but it made putting them in real easy and also guaranteed they didn't thread out the side, they all go in straight.
I used a little bucket of really soapy ice water and dipped the drill in between holes as well as dipped the screws before putting them in. The whole job took about 2 hours (way easier to do than studs).

Wavemaster, looks like you have the 1.25" Track? Seeing that I have the 1.7", do you think I should probably go with the 1 1/4" Kold Cutters?

I have a 2014 ViperXTX SE with the 1.7" track.
The 1" give full engagement while still allowing the paddle to flex.

I ran 1000 of these screws in my SRX . Worked phenomenal! Light weight and they stayed sharp for 2 seasons with no losses.. just don't spin em up going over roads!

What size screws did you use in your srx? I have a 1.25" ripsaw and was wondering what #thread and length I should use, if I can at all with this style track.
Thanks

Just be careful when you measure, the lugs on the track are typically over the reinforced bars and you don't want to screw into the reinforcement.

I was wondering what size thread you used wavemaster. Was it the #8 , #10 or #12This seems like a lot better choice then studding

Bobnoxious here. I'm going to try 1.875" Stud Boys, 3/4" nuts and oversize backers. Even tho the 1.7" is a 2 ply track, the length of the stud is an issue for flex at the track for me and I don't want to run too many studs (90). Just want some added stopping/control grip in icy conditions. Stud Boy rep thought using the oversize backers (designed for 1 ply) would be a great idea. If this set up doesn't work with the other power/clutching mods, especially at extended run high speeds (vibration, speed restriction), I'll dump the 1.7 and replace it with a 1.25". Shipping clutches to Ulmer next week for machining et al for MPI LA turbo (to be installed back here in Bracebridge). In speaking with him, he believes the studded 1.7" should run out to just over 115mph max (which is perfect for a trial guy like me). Need to keep up to (and maybe get a little in front of) those 8's on the big trails! Sled is sitting on the showroom floor and accessories mostly arrived (but Yamaha Canada is already back ordering). Turbo not shipped yet to dealer.
