Ok I know there are a few other topics about studs but I wanted to bring about a current topic now that many have the sled and wanted to see what people are doing.

So post up weather you are studding or not?
Riding style/conditions you plan to ride?
What length?
How many?
Inside only?
Metal/Plastic backers?
Square/Round?
Dbl/Single backers?
Carbide length on the front?

I think those answers will help everyone with determining what to do.
Also I am torn in what to do. I was all over the idea of the Ice attack track. But I worry if it will be enough for me. I have never ran studs in the past. I have rode friends sled's that had them and enjoyed the traction in the icy corners on trail. I like the idea of the prestudded track, but am worried about it blowing apart on the lake. I like the idea of studs but worry about the heat exchanger. lol. Camso needs a 2ply pre studded track like NOW!

I'm an Aggressive Trail Rider, and ride strictly groomed trails in Ontario. (they can be very rough at times)
I'm on a 137" LTX-SE
Thinking of running an Ice Ripper Track.
Probably run 6 & 6 on the front.

192 studs 144 in the middle 24 on each outside lug. 1.450 stud length. tighten down with impact and no problem ever 20 years.

I ride primarily up in the U.P. of Michigan so plenty of snow on the trails most times. I am putting a 1.6" ice cobra track on mine for this winter. I threw a double-stud through my front heat exchanger on my Apex last spring which left me stranded and so now have transitioned to pre-studded for this winter so we'll see how I like it. I have not run them before (prestudded). I've tried out the 1 3/8" cobras out there on various sleds (such as my brother's tz1 1100 turbo) and they hook up great on the trails we ride. If I'm disappointed with it for next season I will put on a ripsaw 2 1.5" and stud the hell out of it. I have the 1.22 Ice Attak XT on my Apex so I'm anxious to see how that is going to be this winter as well.

I'm keeping the stock track. I have 144 studs with single backers all in the center. 24 scratch lines with a custom pattern. It hooks up like a cat on a screen door in the dirt. I've never studded the outside on anything and never had traction issues on ice. Mostly groomed trail and some high speed lake running.

I am trying the ice cobra on my nytro this year. Setting that up as an off trail beater sled and just want something for safety.

Idk.....144 1.45's single/double's alternating down the center. Haven't did it yet.
Have two sleds with combined 10,000miles. All studs intact.
Switched one sled to 1.6ice cobra, just to try. Nice track on/off trail. Between that & gear change lost 5mph.....didn't like that.

I hate stories of thrown picks into exchanger.

Defiantly studing the stock track 137 ltx se 1.5 warthogs down the middle only 144 of them in a 4 / 2 pattern 48 aluminum double backers 48 aluminum single backers.
(But after few hundred "break in miles") (let the track stretch or break in before I stud) going to try snow trackers on the stock skis, if I don't like them 4.5/6 inch stud boy shapers.

I've ran studs on my phazer 121 (96 down middle with black poly (plastic) backers. And on my apex same but with more studs. Think I pulled out 1 or 2 on both sleds after thousands and thousands of miles.(no biggie) used a reg drill which I think was mistake.(torqued some to tight and some to lose as drill lost power) Going to use impact this time. Last year switched to a pre studded track on my apex and lengthened it from a 121 to 137 cause I picked up a 1.375 lug height pre studded ski doo track and cut it to a 15 width all from tracks USA. Great price and rare track wanted more lug height than the ice attack and ice ripper
But couldn't fit the ice cobra 1.6. My experience last year was the pre studded tracks are nothing like the hook up of a real stud, prob going to add real studs to that apex track this year. If done right shouldn't have a pull through on a new track. But guess it's possible. To me the risk is worth the reward to get serious hook up out of the hole. I'm 6.1 235 lb aggressive rider
And stick to groom trails which studs do nothing but stopping on icy trails. But run a lot of lakes and would NEVER run a sled without them. Even if it's just minimal studs (like on my phazer)

Bottom line is what kind of ridding u do. If I did more off trail I would go with the 1.6 ice cobra and could always add studs. I don't think they make them for a 141 length. That's y I went with the 137 geared better for lake running (fast) more track options better shock package best for trail rider in the prairies like me But if I did lots of off trail I would go with the 153 BTX so I could try my hand out west in mtns.

How many windows are on the 137?

I plan on doing 192 woodys triggers 1.450 with round backers inside and outside but staying away from the dead center of the track.

Going be be riding at 141 on trails with 1.6" track depth.
Will install 141 studs, 3 per window. Two as double backers and one single.
Twin 8" cardides per ski.
Since skid is uncoupled I will tighten limit strap one notch to limit lift.
I bought the xtx.
Should be a missle on the trail.
Fingers crossed!
