2014 viper ltx
As some of you have read in other threads i have had some interesting issues with my viper somethings i have already mentioned and others have mentioned . I thought i would give it a real good going over to see what else i could find and issues i had during use and post it here to see if anyone else has these issues.Maybe this will help someone else in a preventative maintenance way this machine has 1000 miles 37.8 hrs run time it is an ltx dx
1 hot start issue 60%of the time start first time 30% hard start 10%need to pull battery cable to reset then start
2 bottom oil line contacting muffler mount
3 upper oil line contacting exhaust heat shield
4 dash cluster filled with moisture(has been replaced)
5 head light fogs over after about 5 minutes of run time after it cools moisture disappears
6 over heating clutches
7 brake hose contacting dash cowl wearing a groove in brake hose
8 positive battery cable run over battery box wore 1/2 way through coating
9 belt guard contacting fuel cell and wearing a groove in it
10 rad fan contacting body wearing a groove where it is touching
11 oil tank is leaking at seam
12 coolant filler neck mount bolts fell out and damaged threads
13 oil light does not work but once during cold start in the morning it would not start till i removed battery cables to reset the electronics to get light to go out then it would start
14 lower rad hose contacting hood and wearing a groove in the hose
15 sway bar contacting belly pans clutch side worse wearing in to pans
16 wiring harness that goes to ecu is zip tied to lower coolant line was kinked 90 degrease was under great pressure where it plugs in that i had to loosen coolant pipe to release pressure on plug to unplug harness to change routing
17 during use the brake rotor guard screws fell out. hood screws fell out.

wow did not realize how big the list was till i typed it out. A lot of this i have repaired on my own and the dealer know,s full well as i have informed them of issues since 2 days after taking possession of it

Sorry you have these issues, both our Vipers are great and do not have any of the issues you posted, except for hot start once. Oh, and I found a loose bolt in the bottom of the sled (didn't go to anything). Number 6 is fixed by using an 8DN belt and putting a shim under the primary clutch spring.

I would suggest contacting the Yamaha area rep and ask for a super deal to trade it in on a 2015. If you cannot find the rep number private message me your number and I can give you the rep number for our area and he will know how to get to yours.

Wow I hope a "new crew was assembling and inspecting that day and that they IMPROVED or were sent packing.

Thanks I will bring this list to my pickup of my 2015 and check before leaving.

BETTER yet I will send this to the dealer before I come for pick up

Yamadoo

Man that sucks , maybe this winter will be better for you !!!!
I didn't have any issues with mine , but I got mine where they also sell article cat so maybe they are use to the way cat builds things !!!! Lol

Besides the belt change for me, oil separator and a bad gauge, no fault of the Viper, I had zero start issues. No hose rubbing. It seams this is more of an inconsistent build, more than a design flaw. I would point the finger more at Cat and the assembly line more than Yamaha! We all know it's new and has it's growing pains, but some with no issues and some with a novel of complaints. Some of it my be a little over looking and almost trying to find problems just cause others are having some. And I don't really mean wanting...but it's like if your looking for something to be wrong you will find it. Not saying any of these problems aren't valid! Just saying that this can really hurt Yamaha and there reputation with the amount of complaints, more so of bad build quality that over all quality. And that's sad, cause this sled has so much potential (as I seen this weekend with NOS PRO). I agree something has to be done, maybe more quality assurance or something of that nature!! A Porsche wouldn't be a Porsche if it was made in Mexico!!

I agree this is a decent sled and love riding it but i did not put this list here to start an issue it was done as a list of the issues with the machine that is in my shop no one else,s and not pointing fingers at no one.I do believe that when a machine is shaking apart as you drive it this is an issue when battery cables are worn almost through to ground on a fuel cell i think this is an issue. I am a licensed technician of 25 years and have always put the customer before the corporation. For the most part i have fixed most issue,s They are simple fixes re routing of wiring changing clamp positions. And yes some issues are more trivial then others would they become large issue yes. Some are major issues .Do i think all vipers are bad of course not would i buy another yes but a turbo when it goes to a new owner it will be a sweet solid sled worthy of the name on the side.
