Figured I need a place to list and follow up on what mods I do to the sled during summer. Plans are to do quite a few mods but I guess it al comes down to how much time and money I can justify spending on this sled. Also if I order a new sled I will just fix her up as quickly and cheaply as possible and keep it as a backup sled.

So this is what is the wishlist for the summer

- Timbersled skid
- Yamaha aluminium rear bumper
- Barkbuster a-arms and spindels
- SLP powder pro skis
- OFT 2 wheel rear axel kit
- Ice scratchers
- Shovel straps on tunnel
- Mountain handelbars (3" rise with hooks)
- UPbuschman steering bushings
- OFT racing aluminium steering bushing

Sounds like a great wish list. Mine is to convert it to propane and turbo it lol dream big lol

Hey Leno, i've been noticing you talking about converting to propane in a couple of posts. Pretty interesting but i'm not familiar with it. What does it entail to do that? What are the benefits? Just curious....

I can make more boost out of it off propane then with boost on racing gas and the cost of the conversion to propane withboost is way less the the cost of boost for gas and to make it something most people dont normally see as well

;):D

Biggest issue using propane would be weight, you need to fab a pressure tank from some high grade steel.. only using stock fuel tank dimensions would not allow for much driving but still add loads of weight at the wrong place..

Propane tanks are made from aluminum too; I have one on my forklift. (not my sled - I wish though!) On a warm day, tank pressure might get to 100 PSI. In the winter, however, that would be much less. I would think an aluminum bottle on a sled would be acceptable, keeping weight down.

Does a sled converted to LP pull liquid or vapor from the bottle?

Hey Leno, Great explanation on the benefits

This is a Great question also and something I have often wondered! ;)! I'm sure Leno can explain it to us!

it would be a liquid and it has a special injector and fuel pump that purges the liquid to a vapor for combustion.

so you have to change your fuel pump and injectors and you are all set? Sounds like a simple economical mod!

so, seriously, all you need to do is change your injectors and fuel pump and the vapor will burn in the cylinder? I would love to read more about this mod! Where did you find the information? Do you have a link to share with us? Thanks!

I don't have any info to offer on the subject ... just an observation and a question about propane being used for this application. Have you ever noticed how a propane tank will have a tendency to ice over when used in colder temps? This seems to hold true for smaller tanks, but not for big tanks (I'm talkin' too big for a sled). This has me wondering whether the same problem (icing) would present itself when using propane in a sled?

Also, just so I don't further hijack this thread ... where can I find a pic of the "Yamaha aluminum bumper"?

I like the propane Idea but personally would go for an E85 setup. Both are pretty close in BTU per gallon and Octane rating. The E85 wouldn't require a special tank. then again E85 is pretty easy to find in Minnesota, not sure about elsewhere but you would be able to put regular 91 in it and turn the boost way down if you needed a fill up and couldn't find E85. I know on my Thunderbird with a Vortech I can run 9psi boost on 91 octane with a conservative tune and with E85 in the tank I can bump it up to 13psi and be very aggressive on the timing and air fuel ratio.
