Idon't know if anyone can help, but after a 100 km,(60 mile) ride yesterday, I noticed the rear suspension on my son's machine was completely compressed and stuck. It was -26 C. It has 2 coil over shocks like a more modern sled. The springs are not broken and the adjusting nuts are still on. when I took it off the trailer this afternoon it had rebounded back but when I stood on it it dropped and didn't come back up. Would a bad shock cause this or maybe just frozen. Any help please.

Wow, I had one of these! Am I showing my age now? I'm gonna say the shocks are toast. Can't remember if they were rebuildable or not. Sorry just brought back some great memories of late friend who had a 93 Vmax 4...daddy max, miss you buddy! We had some great rides out of the old Tahquamenon Motel (closed now).

They were a high pressure gas shock, but not rebuildable. Likely has some moisture inside and the shock froze. Best version Yammy made of the Exciter! Loved mine.

Ok thanks for the info. I will explore it further tonight.

take them off and measure them. might be able to put one out of a proaction viper or rx 1 that is rebuildable in there in its place.

One thing I have seen with these suspensions is that the aluminum shaft inserts on the pivot arms dry out and oxidize if not greased regularly. There is a possibility with being that cold and weak shock, it just stuck. Pull skid and check plastic bushings on shaft ends.

I ordered a new shock today. I'll give it a try. Hopefully I can sell it and upgrade to a 4 stroke. the early RX's are going for $2500 to $3500 Can. now.
