first thing that needs to be done is to ck.the torque on the bolt .the clutch on mine was not on tight .the ramp is a 8lr .and with the drive fully shifted out the stk 8jp belt is .090 from the outside of the sheaves .looks like more can be had

has anyone tried a 911 cover on this ?the stk. bolt with the 911 cover doesn't seem long enough with it on a sidewinder the 911 cove also bottoms out on the spider before the clutch is fully shifted out .

KRM - The bolt is long enough, you need to have a smaller diameter socket to fit inside the diameter of the sleeve so you can tighten the bolt. A Snap-on socket or URREA socket works perfect. The outside diameter of the socket must not be larger than 1.165"
The 911 cover fit perfect on the prototype clutch Yamaha had set out for us on the table when us TY members were allowed to visually look at and hear the Sidewinder Prototypes. All I can say is they must have added material to the spider that now touches the 911 cover ridge on the backside of the cover.
Lonn contacted me and asked if I would find out what was happening and I now know what is going on by installing the 911 cover on my sidewinder.
Lonn is all over this like a fly on (you know what)....so bear with Lonn and he will have a fix shortly.
I have pics on my phone I will load up later

i have a socket that fits .the bolt with the 911 cover only screws in like 2 or 3 thread .with the clutch on the bench and no spring and the 911 cover on loose the cover on the inside hits the spider when the sheaves are together lifting the 911 cover .

I'm also planning on running the Thunder Products 911 cover on my SW primary. If there's been a running change on the clutch since NOS-PRO tried the cover on the SW proto sleds at the TY sneak peak last spring that's causing any fitment problems with the cover/clutch bolt I'm sure that it will be corrected in record time. Between Terry and Lonn they'll have this figured out in no time and will let everyone know as soon as they can.

Nos sees what you are seeing. There must have been a change on the production clutches. The change on the 911 cover is being made as we speak. Hold tight.

i think you''ll find the prototype clutch wasn't an over drive clutch .the production one is and the stem is longer .

We saw the first clutch production units at Yamaha in April. And they must have made last minute change. And yes those were overdrive also.

Put the cover on my SW last night and these are my findings.....
The stock 10mm head bolts have plenty of thread to hold the cover (Yes, Yamaha changed those bolts also. They do not have the washer like the viper had. Nothing wrong, but all the clutching I do, I would rather have the washers) See Pic
The main bolt turns in 7 1/2 full turns torqued to 80 ft. lbs., backed off and re-torqued to 45 ft. lbs. on my primary with the 911 cover. As a metallurgist and Quality Manager at a machine shop... this passes my test (Is it possible that KRM has a shorter bolt? Very possible) The lock washer on the main bolt is rather "thick" so a thinner lock washer could also be used...IMO
Attached is a picture showing the "spider" that is much more "beefy" and the area with my finger is what is making contact with the cover lip shown in "remove" picture. The "Gap" picture shows the sheaves all the way touching each other and the space that I measured to be about 1/32" of an inch will does interfere with full shift out. You can also see the "contact" being made.
This issue was not a problem on the new clutch that was laid out for us on the table at Yamaha when TY was allowed to have a private visit and see the new Sidewinders. Being a clutch guy, I needed to make sure everything was going to fit and move freely throughout the entire movement and from everyone that saw...there wasn't a problem. Thank you krm for bringing this to Lonn's attention. Lonn called me immediately and needed to verify what was going on. Wish I didn't have to do this thing called work during the day or I would have had it checked into....but glad there is a little time before the snow comes down and trails open.
The fix I proposed to Lonn and I will be machining my cover this morning inbetween the areas that have black marks. I am removing the lip about 1.250" (1 1/4") wide and making the cut flush with the face of the bolt holes.

You guys are the best! Does the primary need to be rebalanced after the cover install?

No, the cover can go on without the worry of re-balancing. The 911 cover is precision machined so balancing is not needed.
