sw drive clutch

lonn, thank you again .the cover is on its way .what a great company to do business with .

Lonn and Thunder Products....the best everything!

Attached is a picture of what I modified on my cover and will install tonight to make sure everything clears and works at full shift.

am I missing something...if you machine the cover...wouldnt it be weaker? need to be rebalanced?
look at the last picture .they're going to machine the area between the blk. marks so it goes down over the spider .won't affect balance as all 3 will be done the same .

Good question SJ, I machined as centered as I could between the holes.. I have a balancing shaft here at work.... will check it out

SJ, I only removed the lip from each one of the ears or tabs. This shouldn't weaken anything and will be material taken off that is hanging there with no reason.

Heading to the balancing bar right now.

That sucks we were all so happy when you guys put it on proto. Hopefully it can be located precisely for that operation.

No issues from the balancing machine.

It can and like mentioned before....glad it was caught before the snow flies

Nos in the first picture is it just the pic or is the bolt not centered in the cover hole?
10mm-bolt-jpg.121994

The bolt is just hanging there by a smidgin of the thread to show how much the bolt will be holding once threaded all the way in. The cover holes are exactly where they should be.

This cover has been on my Viper sled for almost 5,000 miles.....if there would have been a problem I wouldn't be running it. These covers are precision machined on CNC machines.

On another note..... I would like to thank all the members working with me thru PM's to get their covers to work properly on their sidewinders. Many of these members bought the 911 cover for their Vipers and now have purchased Sidewinders with the note of adding these 911 covers to their new SW's.

Just as Yamaha puts on all of their ads and what some people are finding out when they actually receive their new "production" sleds that things have been changed since the prototypes....

The thicker spider clutch issue is something that was changed by Yamaha....and because Yamaha's fine print states "unit specifications are subject to change" there will always be something that will change or isn't the same as the pre-production models. Take the 2016 engine changes mid-year...some got the old engine and some got the new engine.

The day that all of us TY members were able to see the Sidewinders up close and hear them for the 1st time....on the bench for me and a bunch of others...we were able to look at the new clutches off of a sled and were told that was the final version of new clutching, but apparently it was not. I heard someone mention that "we shouldn't make parts from the pre-production models"... The clutch on the table for us to work on was a final version and the only clutch we had to look at, try aftermarket clutch parts and take apart.

Key thing here is that we all work together to find the problem, address the problem and get on the snow and have fun....

amen ! and thank you .next ,i think will be the clutching as after reading turbo dynamics post it seems the clutching is close and runs cool but ,might under rev after time ??

You are welcome krm ;)!

Under rev? Usually after time, Yamaha clutching will over-rev due to belt wear.

From what I see it maybe close....but I know the engine will start breaking in and the revs will go up, so I want a clutch weight that I can adjust without pounding rivets out

back in the 90s when i was racing v max 4s i needed to use fishing sinkers to get the ramps setup .most of the good parts came from yamaha canada ,if i called the race dept .here in the us they'd say there were no such part when i already had the parts .i still have alot of tuning parts for v max 4s .i have a test track so i'll be able to get my sw dialed in an i have a stalker .
