syn oil

All I could find today at the local CDN Tire was Mobil-1 0W-40, anyone else use this oil?

It met the recommendation and seemed like it would be fine but I thought I had better ask first?

As I said before, I use Mobil-1 0W40, no problem.

As long as your choice of oil meets manufacturer specs you have NOTHING to worry about!you can run Vegetable oil as long as it meets manufacturer specs! do not be afraid of Amsoil! They are the only company that Guarantees thier product! No one else does.

Looks like it is Mobil-1 0W-40 for me as well?

I did some research at bobistheoilguy.com and it turns out some over there have been running it in their sleds for years as well.

I was trying to purchase some Mobil-1 0W-30 to follow the factory recommendation but turns out the 0W-40 is even better and Yamaha now recommends and sells 0W-40 Yamalube.

Thanks for the help

Mobil 1 0-40 here too. I can get the 0-30, but use the 0-40.

I use it in my....

1987 Buick GN
2004 Honda Turbocharged PWC (oil gets HOT!!)
2004 Polaris 500 ATV
2006 Apex GT
2010 Vector LTX/GT

Used it in my '06 Nytro & '08 FX Nytro.

I do add ZDDP+ also. 1/2 bottle per small engine & a whole bottle in the Buick.

Synthetic oil

This subject has been debated all season. I would do a couple searches because my memory is that the automotive sector had to make a formula change and that an ingrediant needed for the sleds was no longer in the Mobil 1 so just because you have used it for years may not be a good reason to keep using it or recomending it for others. Check the rating, if it isn't rated for for the sleds application I wouldn't use it.

Geezer

You're talking about the zinc content and you're right to some extent. I looked at the different oils and Mobil 1 0W40 has a higher zinc content than the majority of other name brand oils. That's because it is formulated for European sports cars. The lower zinc was mandated by the US EPA but some oils are exempted, such as those for specific imports, racing and power sports. You can add ZDDP+ to boost the zinc to any oil.

You should not have to add anyhting to your oil. If you feel the need to add something maybe a little bit of research and you can find an oil that already has the addative built in to it. One should never alter the original design of the oil they are purchasing.

Switched over to Mobil-1 0w-40 today and I feel much better ;)!

I did some reading at bobistheoilguy and it turns out from various tests that Yamalube is iffy at best for protecting and longevity?
(Just going by what I read,,, don't shoot the messanger and continue to use it if your happy with it and happy with your decision)

There was another poster back a few weeks ago who stated he had his oil sampled/tested by an affiliate of Amsoil who basically stated his Yamalube was toast at 400 miles,,, I originally said no way, I don't believe it, but now I am not so sure?
